LAST GAME RECAP – VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 3, DALLAS STARS 2 SO
The Vegas Golden Knights (4-0-0) defeated the Dallas Stars (1-0-1) to tie their best start in franchise history with a 3-2 shootout win on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena. After a scoreless first period, the Stars opened the scoring with a goal from Craig Smith, but Golden Knights defenseman Kaedan Korczak tied the game eight minutes later with his first NHL goal. Early in the third, Dallas responded to inch ahead with a goal from Joe Pavelski but William Karlsson deflected a Korczak shot to tie the game with three minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime. The extra frame passed without a score to send the teams into a shootout. Shea Theodore and Matt Duchene traded goals in the second round before Jonathan Marchessault’s game-winning shootout tally brought home the win for the Golden Knights.
AGAINST THE JETS
The Vegas Golden Knights will face the Winnipeg Jets for the first time since defeating the Jets, 4-1, in the opening round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In the postseason, it was the second time in franchise history the Golden Knights and Jets met in the playoffs and first since Vegas defeated Winnipeg in the Western Conference Final in 2018. After dropping Game 1, 5-1, the Golden Knights bounced back with four-straight wins including a thrilling 5-4 double overtime victory on the road with Michael Amadio’s game-winning goal in Game 3 and an explosive 4-1 win in Game 5 to eliminate the Jets from the playoffs. Chandler Stephenson shined for the Golden Knights, leading the club with four goals and four assists for eight points to help knock out the Jets. In the regular season, Vegas kept Winnipeg out of the win column as the Golden Knights swept the Jets, 3-0-0.
