The Vegas Golden Knights (24-12-1) fell to the Los Angeles Kings (20-12-6), 4-2, in their first game back from the holiday break on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena. Midway through the first, Gabriel Vilardi fired a shot home to put the Kings up, 1-0. Michael Amadio answered on the power play as the former King tied the score at 1-1. Brayden McNabb gave the Golden Knights their first lead of the night as he converted on a Reilly Smith pass to put the visitors ahead by a goal. Phillip Danault scored to tie the game three minutes later and the teams went into the final frame level at 2-2. Alex Iafallo and Viktor Arvidsson scored in the third period to give Los Angeles the 4-2 win.
LAST GAME BY THE NUMBERS
- McNabb nets his first tally of the season
- Amadio extends his goal streak to three games for the first time in his career
- Pietrangelo’s helper is his fifth in five straight games since returning to the line-up
- Vegas drops to 24-12-1 on the season and 14-3-1 on the road
It’s-A Me, Amadio
Michael Amadio has scored a goal in three straight games for Vegas, setting a new personal best for the forward. Amadio’s goal against his former club was his sixth point (3-3—6) since being promoted to Vegas’ top line on Dec. 19. On a four-game point streak, Amadio has now matched his career best of consecutive games with a point.
Hitting the Gas
Since returning to the lineup from personal reasons, Alex Pietrangelo has points in five straight games (1-5—6). The defenseman has recorded an assist in each of the five, including the primary assist on Stephenson’s game-tying goal against the Blues on Dec. 23. Pietrangelo also scored his fourth goal of the season against his former team, his first since joining Vegas in 2020 as a free agent.
Nabber, My Bro!
Brayden McNabb netted his first goal of the season against his former club, Los Angeles on Tuesday night. McNabb had not scored a goal in the regular season against the Kings during his six seasons as a Golden Knight. McNabb is third among Vegas defensemen in points with 11 (1-10—11).
Easy Steph-y
Chandler Stephenson leads Vegas in points with 36 (9-27—36) in 37 games after posting his second four-point game in 11 days on Friday night against the Blues. Stephenson recently had a seven-game point streak with 14 points (3-11—14), he led all NHL players in points during that time. It was the longest point streak for Stephenson in his career and tied the longest by a Golden Knight this season (last, Eichel 10/28-11/10). Stephenson leads the club in helpers with 27 on the season and is T-5th among NHL forwards.
Power Play Magic
The Golden Knights have converted on 14 of their 35 power play opportunities for the month of December, passing the club’s previous record (12) for the most power play goals in a month. Vegas’ 40% power play percentage this month is second in the NHL, behind the Edmonton Oilers (41.3%).
The Shorty King
Reilly Smith netted his fourth shorthanded goal of the season on Dec. 15 in Chicago, which leads the league. Smith’s 12 shorthanded goals since joining Vegas in 2017-18 are the most in franchise history. The Golden Knights are tied with the Wild for the most shorthanded goals by a team with six on the season.
Martinez Block Party
Golden Knights defenseman Alec Martinez leads the NHL with 132 blocked shots in 37 games and is the only player in the league to reach the century mark so far this season. Martinez has led the team in blocked shots in 22 of 36 games.
Spreading the Wealth
Eight Golden Knights have recorded 20 or more points this season, and 12 have 10 or more. Chandler Stephenson leads the club with 36 points, followed by Mark Stone with 31 points, and Jack Eichel with 29 points.
