LAST GAME
The Hurricanes posted a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at PNC Arena on Saturday, earning the franchise’s first regular-season sweep of the Penguins since 1986-87. Brady Skjei opened the scoring for Carolina, and Jalen Chatfield scored his second straight game-winning goal, the first two of his NHL career. Sebastian Aho, Jordan Martinook and Brett Pesce each tallied an assist, as Aho extended his assist/point streak to four games, tied for the longest assist streak of any Hurricanes skater this season. Frederik Andersen stopped 34 of 35 shots faced in net to post his second win in as many starts since returning from injury.

HURRICANES vs. CANUCKS SERIES NOTES
— Carolina is facing Vancouver in the second and final meeting between the teams during the 2022-23 season.

— The Hurricanes and Canucks are meeting for the 83rd time in their regular-season histories. Carolina holds a 32-34-11-5 overall record, including a 20-14-5-1 home record.

— Carolina leads the season series 1-0-0 in 2022-23 (Vancouver: 0-1-0), and the Hurricanes are 7-2-1 in the teams’ last 10 matchups dating back to 12/13/16.

— Canucks President of Hockey Ops Jim Rutherford served as President and General Manager of the Whalers/Hurricanes from 1994- 2014. During his tenure, Carolina earned a 655-623-111-101 regular-season record (.511) and a 41-37 postseason record, winning three division titles (1998-99, 2001-02, 2005-06), two conference titles (2001-02, 2005-06) and the franchise’s only Stanley Cup (2006).

GOING BACK-TO-BACK
The Hurricanes are closing their seventh of 14 sets of back-to-back games in 2022-23. With a win over the Penguins on Saturday, Carolina is now 4-2-1 in the first game and 6-0-0 in the second game of back-to-backs this season. The Hurricanes’ 12 points in the second game of back-to-backs are tied with STL (6-3-0) for the most of any NHL team in 2022-23, and they are one of two teams without a loss in any such contest this season (SEA: 2-0-0).
