NEW YEAR’S EVE STORYLINES
• Tonight’s game marks the ninth consecutive time that the Canucks have played a game on New Year’s Eve away from home, dating back to 2003. The team is 4-4-0 in those previous eight contests, including three wins in the last five of those games.

• Forwards Elias Pettersson (42-52-94 in 80 GP) and J.T. Miller (34-60-94 in 82 GP) enter tonight’s game at Calgary tied for the team-lead in scoring in the year 2022.

The Calgary Flames headed to Climate Pledge Arena on Wednesday night to take on the Kraken for their final road game of 2022. The Flames struck early with Tyler Toffoli opening the scoring, netting his 15th of the season to give the Flames a 1-0 advantage. They would hold that lead until the ladder stages of the first where Ryan Donato evened the game at the 18:45 mark to knot the teams at one going into the intermission. Calgary and Seattle would trade goals in the second with Jamie Oleksiak scoring just 1:14 into the period to give the Kraken the lead, but later Nazem Kadri would tie the game on the power play and the clubs remained deadlocked at twos through 40. Jonathan Huberdeau would record the only tally of the third for his first game-winning goal as a Flame while Dan Vladar turned aside all six final frame shots he faced, and the Flames won 3-2.

TONIGHTS STORYLINES & STATS
This is the second of four matchups this season between the Flames and Canucks. The Flames fell 4-3 in a shootout against Vancouver in their first meeting in mid-December. This is a Pacific Division Matchup; The Flames have an overall record of 7-3-2 against Pacific Division opponents this season and a record of 11-5-2 against Western Conference opponents.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE CANUCKS:
The Flames welcomed the Canucks to the Scotiabank Saddledome just over two weeks ago for the first of two times his season. The Flames fell behind early on quick strikes from Bo Horvat and Conor Garland, making it 2-0 Canucks under two minutes into the game. However, Calgary battled back with Mikael Backlund cutting the Flames deficit to one, followed by an Andrew Mangiapane strike to tie the game before the end of the first. The Flames kept their foot on the gas to start the second with Trevor Lewis netting his sixth on the campaign to give the Flames their first lead of the game. Shortly after, Sheldon Dries responded for Vancouver to level the contest and it would remain that way through 40. In the final stanza, neither side could find a winner and in three-on-three overtime the Canucks outshot the Flames 5-2, but the score remained deadlocked 3-3. The game required a shootout where Vancouver’s Andrei Kuzmenko would score the only goal and the Flames claimed a point but fell 4-3.
