- Auston Matthews scored twice in Toronto’s win, posting his fourth multi-goal game of the season and his 20th multi-point game of the season. Matthews extended his point streak to four games where he has posted six points (3G, 3A). Per NHL Stats, “Matthews notched his 58th career multi-goal game and moved within three of tying Mats Sundin (61 GP) for the third most in Maple Leafs history. Darryl Sittler (71 GP) and Rick Vaive (64 GP) sit first and second, respectively.”
- William Nylander scored for the Maple Leafs at 1:20 of the second period and posted the secondary assist on Bunting’s power play goal. With his assist, Nylander set a new career-high in points with his 81st of the season. Nylander surpassed the 80-point mark for the second occasion of his NHL career (previous career-high of 80 points set in the 2021-22 season).
- Mitch Marner scored shorthanded for Toronto at 15:49 of the third period and registered the primary assist on Matthews’ first goal of the game. Marner leads the Maple Leafs in shorthanded goals this season with four, which also marks a single-season, career-high for Marner in shorthanded goals. Marner marked the eight shorthanded goal of his NHL career. Marner has scored in four-consecutive games and extended his point streak to eight games where he has posted 15 points (6G, 9A). Marner recorded his 24th multi-point game of the season.
- Mark Giordano registered his first multi-point game of the season with two assists.
- John Tavares tied a single-game, season-high and tied an NHL career second-best with three assists recorded during Thursday’s win. Tavares has posted seven assists through his last four games, recording three multi-assist games in his last four outings. Tavares registered his 10th
multi-assist game of the season and his 20th multi-point game of the season. - Jake McCabe posted the secondary assist on Kerfoot’s goal. With his 19th assist of the season, McCabe set a new career-high in assists while tying a career-high in points with his 22nd of the season (his previous career-high of 22 points was set in the 2021-22 season with Chicago).

The Hurricanes suffered a 2-1 loss against the New York Rangers at PNC Arena on Thursday. Sebastian Aho scored Carolina’s only goal, with an assist from Martin Necas. Jordan Martinook skated in his 300th game with the Hurricanes, while Jalen Chatfield played his 100th career NHL game. Frederik Andersen made his third straight start, stopping 14 of 16 shots faced in net. — Carolina is facing Toronto in the third and final meeting between the teams during the 2022-23 season.
