The Tampa Bay Lightning’s three-game winning streak came to an end with a 6-3 loss to the New York Rangers April 5 at Madison Square Garden…The Bolts fell into an early 3-0 hole when Chris Kreider, Kappo Kakko and Tyler Motte scored three consecutive goals at the 6:13, 7:41 and 10:21 marks of the opening period…Just 19 seconds after Motte made it a 3-0 game, Alex Killorn got the Lightning back within two with a power-play goal, redirecting a point shot from Mikhail Sergachev past Igor Shesterkin with Nikita Kucherov picking up the secondary helper…Darren Raddysh made it a 3-2 game with his first career NHL goal when he fired a shot from the point that deflected off a NYR defenseman and past Shesterkin with 12:50 remaining in the second period…Motte answered right back for NYR
just 15 seconds later to make it 4-2…Brandon Hagel got Tampa Bay back within one with 8:26 remaining in the second period when he jammed home a rebound following a shot from Anthony Cirelli…Kreider and Artemi Panarin scored the only goals of the third period to wrap up a 6-3 win for NYR…Andrei Vasilevskiy got the start in goal for the Lightning and made 31 saves on 37 shots against.

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight, the New York Islanders host the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third and final matchup between the two clubs this season and the second meeting between them in the last six days. Tonight, the Islanders will look to snap a six-game winless streak against Tampa Bay, in the Lightning’s first visit to UBS Arena since April 29, 2022. The Islanders will also look to bounce back after two straight losses last weekend, including a 5-0 decision in the Lightning’s favor at AMALIE Arena on Saturday. It is only the second time since the All-Star Break that the Islanders have suffered consecutive regulation losses. The Islanders return home tonight following a three-game road trip. They are 6-3-1 in their last ten matchups at UBS Arena and improved to 22-13-3 at home on March 27, a 5-1 win against the New Jersey Devils. The Islanders enter tonight’s matchup with an 8-10-4 record against Atlantic Division opponents this season, but are 6-2-1 on home ice against Atlantic opponents since December 23.
