STORYLINES
VISITING THE MAPLE LEAFS
The New York Islanders will visit Toronto twice this season, on Nov. 21 and Jan. 23, 2023. The last time they visited Toronto was April 17, 2021, a 4-2 loss. The last time the Islanders won in a road game against the Maple Leafs was Dec. 29, 2018. The Islanders also played the Maple Leafs one year ago today, when they hosted the Leafs on Nov. 21, 2021, as the second opponent ever on UBS Arena ice. The game was a 3-0 decision in Toronto’s favor. Forwards Josh Bailey and Zach Parise lead active Islanders in career points against the Maple Leafs, each with 23. Bailey has recorded seven goals and 16 assists in 39 games against Toronto, and Parise has 10 goals and 13 assists, also in 39 games against them. Jean-Gabriel Pageau has tallied 11 assists in 27 career matchups against the Maple Leafs, tied for the most against any single opponent in his career (New Jersey). Entering tonight’s game, Pageau is fourth on the Islanders in assists (8). Islanders forward Matt Martin was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2016-18, appearing in 132 games with Toronto, tallying 21 points (8g, 13a). He was traded back to the New York Islanders on July 3, 2018, in exchange for Eamon McAdam. The Islanders enter tonight’s game with a 6-4-0 record in their last ten contests.

AGAINST THE ATLANTIC
The Islanders collected their first win of the season against an Atlantic Division opponent last week. They can collect their second straight victory against an Atlantic Division opponent tonight, after visiting Ottawa on Nov. 14 and earning a 4-2 win against the Senators.

ON THE ROAD
Tonight, the Islanders conclude a four-game road trip, their longest of the season so far. The Islanders look to split their road trip 2-2-0 with this evening’s matchup, after falling to Nashville (5-4) and Dallas (5-2) in their last two games. Entering tonight’s game, the Islanders are 5-3-0 in their last eight road matchups. Through 10 road games this season, the Islanders have outscored opponents 33-31. The Islanders will look to earn their sixth road win of the season tonight, bringing them above .500 in road games.

ONTARIO
Ontario is the most well-represented Canadian province on the Islanders’ roster. Six active Islanders hail from Ontario: Josh Bailey, Casey Cizikas, Cal Clutterbuck, Matt Martin, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, and Adam Pelech. Of the six, two are Toronto natives: Casey Cizikas and Adam Pelech.

POWER PLAY
Saturday night in Dallas, Mathew Barzal scored on the power play as the Islanders found the back of the net with a man advantage for the third straight game. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored power play goals in consecutive games on Nov. 14 and 17, and Oliver Wahlstrom also scored a PPG in Monday’s win in Ottawa. Through ten road games this season, the Islanders have scored on 30.3% of power play opportunities when they are the visitor.

STORYLINES
FOUR STRAIGHT
Islanders forward Mathew Barzal and captain Anders Lee have each found the scoresheet in their last four straight games. Barzal leads Islanders in assists (19) and points (21) through 19 games so far this season. Lee has recorded an assist in four straight, tying his career-best assist streak. THE THIRD
The Islanders remain most productive in the third period. Every victory the Islanders have captured so far this season has included an Islander finding the back of the net in the third.
