Anders Lee opened the score on the power play, then Brock Nelson and Zach Parise each found the back of the net as the New York Islanders defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 at the United Center on Tuesday night. Tonight, the New York Islanders visit the St. Louis Blues in the first of two meetings between the two clubs this season. Tonight’s matchup is the second in a three-game road trip for the Islanders, who earned their fourth straight win on Tuesday night vs. the Blackhawks. VISITING THE BLUES
The Islanders have collected at least one point in five of their last six matchups against St. Louis. The last time the Islanders visited the Blues was April 9, 2022, a 6-1 Blues win. Last season, Islanders forward Brock Nelson was the only Islander to find the scoresheet each time the Islanders and Blues met, as he tallied a goal on Mar. 5, when St. Louis visited UBS Arena, and an assist on April 9 when the Islanders went on the road. Tonight’s matchup is the Islanders’ third straight against a Central Division team, after hosting the Avalanche on Saturday (5-4 W) and visiting the Blackhawks on Tuesday night (3-1 W). Last season, the Islanders collected points in nine of their 16 matchups against Central teams and finished with a 7-7-2 record against them. The Islanders’ active points leader against the Blues is Zach Parise, who has tallied 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists) in 42 career games against St. Louis. A former member of the Central Division, Parise has played the Blues more than double the amount his Islander teammates have.

Islanders forward Josh Bailey skated in his 1,000th career NHL game on Friday night at PNC Arena. The Bowmanville, ON native tallied his second goal in two games and the eventual game-winner. It is only the 12th time in NHL history that a player has been credited with the game-winning goal in their 1,000th career NHL game. Bailey joins Bryan Trottier and Denis Potvin as the only skaters in club history to record 1,000 or more games as an Islander, and he became the 73rd player in NHL history to record 1,000 games with the same club.
ELEVEN
Islanders netminder Ilya Sorokin turned away all 41 shots he faced on Wednesday night vs. the Rangers, helping the Islanders earn their first shutout of the season. It was the 11th shutout of Sorokin’s career, and the 11th time in franchise history that an Islanders goalie made more than 40 saves while recording a shutout. Including Wednesday, three of those 40-plus-save shutouts are owned by Sorokin. It was the Mezhdurechensk, Russia native’s first career shutout vs. the Islanders’ Metropolitan Division rival, New York Rangers. Sorokin became the sixth goaltender in the NHL to record a shutout this season and the first goaltender in wthe Metropolitan Division to do so.
FIFTY
Islanders netminder Semyon Varlamov turned away 33 of 37 shots faced on Saturday night to help the Islanders earn a 5-4 win over Colorado. It was Varlamov’s 50th win as an Islander. He becomes the 12th goalie in franchise history to record 50 wins with the club. It was Varlamov’s 263rd win, good for 11th -most amongst active NHL goaltenders. Through 23 starts against St.Louis, Varlamov has a 10-11-3 record, including a .925 SV% and 2.48 GAA. His record against the Blues is third amongst active goaltenders (Quick, Hellebuyck).
FORWARD PRODUCTION
Islanders forward Brock Nelson (4g, 1a since Oct. 28) has found the back of the net in each of his last three games. It is his first three-game goal streak since March 27. Nelson has recorded two game-winners through six Islander wins so far this season. Forward Zach Parise also enters tonight’s game with a three-game goal streak, his second three-game goal streak as an Islander and first since April 15 of last season.
Team Captain Anders Lee leads the Islanders in goals through ten games. The Islanders have recorded four power play goals so far this season; Three have been scored by Lee. Tuesday night in Chicago, Lee opened the score with his fifth goal of the season. Forward Mathew Barzal has tallied six assists in his last five games, and his ten assists through ten games are third-most amongst Metropolitan skaters. On Saturday, he became the first Islander since Vladimir Malakhov (1993) to tally ten assists through his first nine games.
COMEBACK WIN
Saturday night, the Islanders hosted the Colorado Avalanche at home at UBS Arena. After the Avalanche opened up a 3-0 lead, five different Islanders found the back of the net in the second and third periods to help the Islanders defeat the Avalanche, 5-4.It was the first time since November 16, 2019 that the Islanders overcame a 3-0 deficit and won, and the first time since February 18, 2018 that the Islanders overcame a three-goal deficit on home ice. It had not happened on home ice and in regulation since 1984. It was the fifth time in club history that an empty-netter became the eventual game-winning goal.
BLUELINERS
The Islanders have seen nine defenseman goals so far this season, leading the NHL. Through ten games, Islanders blueliners have recorded 23 points. An Islanders defensman has found the scoresheet in eight of ten games so far this season. Alexander Romanov recorded his first points as an Islander in back-to-back games, tallying assists on Friday and Saturday vs. Carolina and Colorado. Ryan Pulock recorded a three-game point streak from Oct. 26 – Oct 29. Adam Pelech notched his second-multi assist game of the season (2a) on Oct. 26 to help the Islanders Defeat the Rangers at home. It was his ninth career multi-assist game. Oct. 18, Pelech recorded two assists to help the Islanders to a 5-2 victory vs. San Jose. Noah Dobson scored the first Islander goal of the season, Thursday Oct. 13. Dobson is the first Islander since Chris campoli (2007) and only the second in franchise history to find the back of the net in each of the Islanders’ first two games of the season. He was the first Islander defenseman since Johnny Boychuk in 2014 to tally at least one point in the first three games of the season. Scott Mayfield and Robin Salo each recorded their first career multi-goal games on Oct. 15. It was the first time since January 1993 that two Islanders defensemen have recorded multi-goal outings in the same contest. Robin Salo’s +4 rating on October 15 was a career-high and matched the Islanders’ single-game high set last season by Brock Nelson (Nov. 4 vs. MTL). He is the first Islander defenseman since Denis Potvin (most recently in 1982) to record two goals and record a +4 rating in the same game.
