CALGARY FLAMES NOTES:

FLAMES LAST GAME RECAP
JANUARY 3, 2023 – CALGARY FLAMES [2] vs. WINNIPEG JETS [3]
The Calgary Flames began 2023 away from home with a one game trip to Winnipeg to take on the Jets. Both teams were firing the puck early with a combined 24 first period shots (14 for Calgary, 10 for Winnipeg) but Jacob Markstrom and Connor Hellebuyck stood tall, and the game remained scoreless through 20. In the second, Winnipeg got the contests opening goal with Brenden Dillon deflecting a Dylan DeMelo point shot to give the Jets the lead. But with exactly a minute left in the frame, Nikita Zadorov jumped up on the rush and fired home his fifth of the season to draw the Flames level heading into the intermission. In the third the defensive scoring continued with Josh Morrissey giving the Jets their lead back before Mikael Backlund found himself in alone and slid his eighth on the campaign through the legs of Hellebuyck to tie the game once again. The Jets scored late in the third and would hold on for a 3-2 win.
