Streak Snapped

  • The Capitals have failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2013-14, snapping an eight-season playoff streak. Washington’s eight-year streak was tied for second-longest active playoff streak in the NHL (Pittsburgh: 16 seasons; Nashville: 8 seasons).
  • From 2014-15 to 2021-22, the Capitals had a record of 374-176-67 (815 points, .660 point percentage). • The Capitals finished with 100 or more standings points in six of the eight seasons during the streak. The only seasons in which the Capitals did not reach the 100-point mark from 2014-15 to 2021-22 were the shortened 2019-20 (90 points in 69 games – a 106-point pace) and the 2020-21 (77 points in 56 games – a 112-point pace) seasons.
  • The Capitals have missed the playoffs for just the eighth time since the 1982-83 season (1997, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2014).
