The Devils defeated the New York Rangers at Prudential Center on Saturday afternoon, after a 4-3 overtime win. The win snapped an eight-game home winless streak. Jersey also improved to 4-2 for games decided in overtime this season.

Jersey’s team experienced its first contest decided in a shootout this season via New Year’s Day vs Carolina, which marked the franchise’s longest stretch from the start of a season without entering a shootout round (36 GP). The Hurricanes suffered a 4-3 shootout loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Saturday, marking their first road shootout loss since 2017 (also at CBJ). After Carolina fell down 2-0 in the second period, Max Pacioretty scored the first goal of his Hurricanes career to cut the deficit. Brady Skjei tied the game on the man-advantage, and Pacioretty scored his second goal and Carolina’s second power-play goal of the period to give the Hurricanes a 3-2 lead. Antti Raanta made 15 saves in regulation but suffered his first shootout loss of the season and his first loss in eight decisions. Andrei Svechnikov and Teuvo Teravainen scored Carolina’s only goals in the shootout.

HURRICANES vs. DEVILS SERIES NOTES
— Carolina is facing New Jersey in the third of four meetings between the teams during the 2022-23 season. The Hurricanes travel to Prudential Center on 3/12.
