LAST TIME OUT
The last time the Kings and Canadiens met on Nov. 9, 2021, Kings forward Adrian Kempe netted the game-winning goal with 1:21 remaining in overtime, leading the Kings to the season sweep over Montreal. Kempe’s late overtime goal marked his sixth goal in his seventh game against the Canadiens. In total, Kempe has eight career points (6-2=8) and is averaging a point-per-game pace of 1.14 against the Canadiens, the highest among any Kings skater. His overtime goal was one of six game-winning goals Kempe had on the road last year, which was tied for third-most in the league behind New York’s Chris Kreider (8) and Tampa’s Steven Stamkos (7) last season. Alex Iafallo scored the Kings’ second goal of the game just six seconds into the third period, marking the fastest goal from the start of any period in LA Kings history. At the time, Iafallo’s goal was also the fastest by an NHL player since Oct. 19, 2019, when Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher scored six seconds into the second period of a 5-2 win at the St. Louis Blues. Dave Williams held the previous the Kings’ previous record, scoring seven seconds into the first in a 5-2 win against the Hartford Whalers on Feb. 14, 1987, which still stands as the fastest goal from the start of a game in franchise history. Of the Kings’ seven fastest goals to start any period, three of them have been against Montreal:

FOLLOW THE LEADER
Forward Kevin Fiala increased his team-leading point total to 30 (9-21=30) on Tuesday night, becoming the first Kings player this season to reach 30 points. Per NHL PR, Fiala is the fifth LA Kings skater in the past 20 years to reach the 30-point mark in 28 games or fewer, joining Anze Kopitar (19 GP in 2009-10, 24 GP in 2020-21, 28 GP in 2017-18), Pavol Demitra (22 GP in 2005-06), Alex Frolov (24 GP in 2005-06) and Ziggy Palffy (24 GP in 2003-04). In 28 games this season, Fiala’s 21 assists are tied for ninth-most in the league among forwards and sits eight behind Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (29) for the league lead. Of Fiala’s 30 points, 21 have come at even-strength.

A MAMMOTH ANNOUNCEMENT
Earlier this week, on Dec. 7, the LA Kings announced a historic partnership with the Town of Mammoth Lakes, Mammoth Lakes Tourism (MLT) and Mammoth Lakes Recreation to launch the brand-new “LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes” – the town’s first indoor Olympic-sized ice rink. The rink will operate within a newly constructed, multi-use Community Rec. Center, slated to open in 2023. The Community Rec. Center will be a 40,000 sq. foot Sprung Performance Arena enclosed with the “A Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes”. Once opened, the facility will be available to the public year-round with a new rink operating annually each winter season between the months of October and April. During the off-season summer months, the rink will transition into a fully programmable, multi-use Rec Zone, which will serve as the hub for expanding Parks and Recreation Department’s summer camps and programs. Programs at the rink will include public skating, youth and adult hockey, figure skating and learn to skate lessons. The rink will also be the new home for the Mammoth lakes Youth Hockey and Mammoth Stars. The announcement comes a few weeks after the LA Kings and American Sports Entertainment Company (ASEC) celebrated the (re)- opening of the newly-named LA Kings Iceland at Paramount following the acquisition of the facility this past June. Formerly known as Paramount Iceland, and originally founded by the Zamboni family as an outdoor rink, the facility is a single-sheet ice rink that has been a centerpiece in Paramount, and its surrounding communities, since 1940. The building underwent substantial upgrades following the purchase by the Kings and ASEC, including new green energy heat transfer system for ice rink cooling, removal of existing ice rink floor and perma-frost, installation of a new subfloor heating system, cold floor pipes and insulation, dasher board system, rubber flooring, sound system and a rebranding into the LA Kings Iceland. As part of the re-opening, a Zamboni Museum was established in honor of the late Frank J. Zamboni, an original founder of Iceland and inventor of the world’s first Zamboni, highlighted by his original resurfacing “Model A” machine. LA Kings Iceland will continue to feature its Wurlitzer organ, which stands as the only organ pipe actively played at any ice-skating rink in the country, was first installed in 1941. The purchase of the facility marks the latest venture by the LA Kings and ASEC in in an ever-growing portfolio of ice rinks owned or operated by the Kings/ASEC, including the recent agreements with Promenade on the Peninsula in Rolling Hills Estates, City of Santa Clarita public rink in Valencia and the LA Kings Pickwick Ice Center in Burbank.
