COUNTDOWN TO ALL-STAR WEEKEND IN SOUTH FLORIDA
The Panthers and FLA Live Arena will host the 2023 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend from Feb. 3-4, the second time in franchise history the Cats have hosted the all-star festivities (2003). The first 32 All-Stars were named on Jan. 5, with the final 12 to be voted in via online and Twitter fan vote which ends on Jan. 14. Fans can head to NHL.com/VOTE or tweet “NHLAllStarVote” followed by a player’s full name or a player’s Twitter handle. The remaining All-Stars will be announced on Jan. 19. Matthew Tkachuk, who leads the Panthers in goals, assists and points, will represent the Cats at All-Star Weekend.
CATS AND AVALANCHE
The Panthers face off against the Avalanche for the first time this season. The two clubs split their season series in 2021-22, with each team winning at home. Florida defeated Colorado 4-1 on Oct. 21, 2021 at FLA Live Arena behind 30 saves from Sergei Bobrovsky in his 300th NHL game. Carter Verhaeghe, Anton Lundell (1-1-2) and Sam Reinhart all tallied in the game. The Cats have earned at least one point in four of their past five matchups with Colorado (3-1-1) since Feb. 25, 2019, and are 3-2-0 in their past five visits to Ball Arena.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Panthers play seven of their next nine games on the road. Florida ranks fourth in the NHL in shots on goal per game on the road (34.4). Matthew Tkachuk paces the Cats in assists (14) and points (22) away from FLA Live Arena, while Carter Verhaeghe’s 10 road tallies lead the team. Gustav Forsling has scored all six of his goals on the road; Rasmus Dahlin (7) is the only NHL defenseman to tally more road goals this season.
