— Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour played one season of college hockey at Michigan State, where he posted 59 points (27g, 32a) in 42 games in 1988-89. Brind’Amour still holds the program record for goals by a freshman (27).
— Hurricanes Assistant Coach Jeff Daniels skated in 244 IHL games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks from 1988-92, tallying 206 points (93g, 113a).
— Hurricanes Assistant Coach Tim Gleason is a native of Clawson, Mich., about 20 miles north of Detroit. He played youth hockey with Honeybaked before spending parts of three OHL seasons with Windsor, recording 151 points (37g, 114a) in 214 games.
— Alex Nedeljkovic was selected by Carolina in the second round (37th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft and made 29 NHL appearances with the Hurricanes from 2017-21, earning a 17-7-4 record, 2.0s1 goals-against average, .928 save percentage and three shutouts and being named a finalist for the Calder Trophy in 2020-21. He also played 154 AHL games with Charlotte from 2016-20, winning the Baz Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL’s top goaltender and leading the Checkers to a Calder Cup championship in 2018-19.
— Red Wings Associate Coach Bob Boughner tallied five assists in 43 games with Carolina in 2003-04. Acquired from CGY in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2004 NHL Draft (Kristopher Hogg) and a fifth-round pick in the 2005 NHL Draft (Kevin Lalande) on 7/16/03, Boughner was traded to COL in exchange for Chris Bahen, a third-round pick in the 2004 NHL Draft (Casey Borer) and a fifth-round pick in the 2005 NHL Draft (Risto Korhonen) on 2/20/04.
— Red Wings Video Coordinator L.J. Scarpace served as a video coach for the Hurricanes from 2017-19.
