Jan. 8, 2023 – STARS 5 vs. PANTHERS 1
Determined to bust out of their two-game losing streak, the Stars lit the lamp five times in a 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers in front of sellout crowd of 18,532 at American Airlines Center on Sunday afternoon. Forward Jason Robertson (2-0—2) led the way with two goals and defenseman Ryan Suter (0-2—2) registered his first multi-point game of the season to prevent Dallas from losing three in a row for the first time all season. Three of the five goals came from defensemen with Miro Heiskanen (1-0—1), Nils Lundkvist (1-0—1) and Esa Lindell (1-0—1) finding the back of the net. Forwards Ty Dellandrea (0-1—1), Jamie Benn (0-1—1), Joe Pavelski (0-1—1), Wyatt Johnston (0-1—1) and blueliner Colin Miller (0-1—1) added assists, while goaltender Jake Oettinger returned to his winning ways with a 27-save effort. The Stars went 2-0 in the two-game season series against the Panthers, outscoring them 11-5.

TONIGHT’S GAME: The Stars hit the road for a two-game road trip through the Empire State beginning tonight against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. (6 p.m. CT, TV: Bally Sports Southwest Extra, Radio: The Ticket 96.7-FM/1310-AM). This closes out the two-game season series between the two clubs, which opened with a 5-2 Stars victory on Nov. 19 at American Airlines Center. Dallas will conclude their East Coast swing on Thursday against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Semyon Varlamov turned aside 17 shots in the Islanders’ final meeting with Calgary this season.

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight, the New York Islanders host the Dallas Stars in the second and final matchup between the two clubs this season. The Islanders last hosted the Stars on March 19, 2022, when Brock Nelson and Ryan Pulock each scored and Semyon Varlamov made 37 saves to help the Islanders earn a 4-2 victory. The Islanders will look to earn a split in their season series with Dallas as they return home tonight following a four-game road trip.
