BLUE JACKETS’ BUSY WEEK
The Blue Jackets stretched their points streak to three-straight (2-0-1) after collecting a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Ducks on Tuesday. The club swept their first back-to-back set of the season last week, earning a 3-1 win over Calgary on Friday and 5-4 overtime win at Minnesota on Saturday. The last time the club swept a home-road back-to-back set was Jan. 28-29, 2021, defeating Florida 3-2 in a shootout before downing Chicago 2-1. The club plays four games in seven days from Oct. 24-30, with two at home (Oct. 24 vs. ANA and Oct. 28 vs. NYI) and two on the road (Oct. 26 at MTL and Oct. 30 at DAL).
HIT THE ROAD JACK (ETS)
The club began the 2023-24 campaign with a four-game homestand, the longest homestand to kick off a season in franchise history. Columbus will keep the travel bags packed over the current stretch of the season. Last Saturday’s win at Minnesota, which was the club’s first road contest in 2023-24, began a stretch of seven-of-11 games played away from Nationwide Arena through Nov. 12. The club visits Monteal tonight while also visiting Dallas (Oct. 30), Washington (Nov. 4), Florida (Nov. 6), Detroit (Nov. 11) and the NY Rangers (Nov. 12). The team has won its first two road contests of a campaign on three occasions (MR: 2018-19) and has won its first three road games just once before (2010-11). The team will play nine-of-10 games away from Nationwide Arena later this season, from Jan. 23-Feb. 21, which includes the annual western Canada and California road trips.
SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS
Columbus has outshot its last two opponents (Minnesota and Anaheim) by a combined 36 shots (91-55). The team outshot the Ducks 37-27 (+10) in Tuesday’s contest and finished with 54 shots on goal and outshot the Wild 54-28 (+26) in last Saturday’s 5-4 overtime win at Minnesota. The 54 shots on goal tied for the fourth-most in a single game in franchise history and was the second-most in a win, trailing only the 60 shots recorded in a 3-2 SOW at Arizona on Dec. 3, 2016. The +26-shot differential was tied for the third-highest in a win in franchise history, trailing only +28 (44-16) recorded in a 2-0 win vs. Detroit on Feb. 7, 2020 and +27 (47-20) in a 3-1 victory over Nashville on Apr. 27, 2013. It also tied the record for largest shot differential in a road victory after also finishing +26 (60-34) in a 3-2 SO win at Arizona on Dec. 3, 2016.
