LAST GAME
The Hurricanes suffered a 4-3 loss against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center on Saturday. Seth Jarvis, Jesper Fast and Sebastian Aho each scored for Carolina, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi recorded an assist to post the first 40-point season of his NHL career. Antti Raanta made 26 shots faced in net, suffering his first regulation loss since 11/12.

HURRICANES vs. SENATORS SERIES NOTES
— Carolina is facing Ottawa in the third and final meeting between the teams during the 2022-23 season.

— The Hurricanes and Senators are meeting for the 113th time in their regular-season histories. Carolina holds a 61-38-8-5 overall record, including a 25-25-4-3 road record and a 42-34-5-5 record since relocation.

— Carolina leads the season series 2-0-0 in 2022-23 (Ottawa: 0-1-1), and the Hurricanes are 10-4-0 in the teams’ last 14 meetings dating back to 2/24/17 (Senators: 4-8-2).

— The Hurricanes posted a 4-0 win over the Senators at PNC Arena on 2/24. Brent Burns, Seth Jarvis, Martin Necas and Brady Skjei scored for Carolina, and Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov each recorded two assists as Antti Raanta stopped all 32 shots faced in net for his third shutout of the season.

— Carolina earned a 3-2 overtime win over Ottawa at PNC Arena on 4/4. Jesperi Kotkaniemi (1g, 1a), Stefan Noesen (2a) and Brady Skjei (1g, 1a) each tallied two points, and Martin Necas scored his fourth overtime winner of the season as Antti Raanta stopped 26 of 28 shots faced in net.

— Sebastian Aho has registered 15 points (5g, 10a) in 16 career regular-season games against Ottawa.

— Brent Burns has recorded 24 points (7g, 17a) in 23 career regular-season games against the Senators.

— Calvin de Haan is a native of Carp, Ont., about 25 miles southwest of Ottawa, and played youth hockey with the Ottawa Valley Titans.

— Jordan Staal has earned 29 points (10g, 19a) in 44 career regular-season games against the Senators.

— Paul Stastny has tallied 19 points (6g, 13a) in 29 career regular-season games against Ottawa.

— Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour was born in Ottawa.

— Hurricanes Assistant Coach Tim Gleason was selected by the Senators in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2001 NHL Draft, but he was traded to LAK before appearing in an NHL game with the Senators.

— Patrick Brown signed with Carolina as an undrafted free agent and spent five seasons with the Hurricanes from 2014-19. He tallied two points (1g, 1a) in 28 NHL games with Carolina and recorded 125 points (53g, 72a) in 334 AHL games with Charlotte, captaining the Checkers to a Calder Cup championship in 2019.

— Julien Gauthier was selected by the Hurricanes in the first round (21st overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft and tallied one assist in five NHL games with Carolina in 2019-20. He also played 184 AHL games with Charlotte from 2017-20, posting 103 points (69g, 34a). Gauthier recorded eight points (5g, 3a) in 17 postseason games in 2019 to help the Checkers capture their first Calder Cup.

— Mark Kastelic’s father, Ed, was acquired by Hartford from the Washington Capitals along with Grant Jennings in exchange for Mike Millar and Neil Sheehy on 7/6/88. He earned 18 points (9g, 9a) and 485 penalty minutes in 147 games with the Whalers from 1988-1992,

and his 42 penalty minutes in the second period against the North Stars on 11/10/90 still mark the franchise record for a single frame. — Jake Sanderson’s father, Geoff, was selected by Hartford in the second round (36th overall) of the 1990 NHL Draft and skated in 479 games with the Whalers/Hurricanes from 1991-97, posting 369 points (196g, 173a). He still ranks eighth in franchise history in goals and seventh in power-play goals (26). Geoff was traded to Vancouver along with Sean Burke and Enrico Ciccone in exchange for Martin Gelinas and Kirk McLean on 1/3/98.

OTTAWA SENATORS NOTES:

LAST GAME: April 8, 7-4 win vs. Tampa Bay: The Senators received goals from seven different skaters as they earned a second win in their season series with Tampa Bay for the first time since 2017-18 with a 7-4 win at Canadian Tire Centre. The victory marked Ottawa’s second consecutive seven goal game against Tampa Bay. DeBrincat and Kastelic both registered one goal and one assist night’s after Batherson opened the scoring 30 seconds into the contest to mark the Senators’ fastest game-opening goal this season. Gauthier, Brown, Sokolov (with his first career NHL goal) and Giroux (into an empty net) also found the back of the net for the home side while Sanderson added two assists to eclipse Redden for the third-most points by an Ottawa rookie blueliner in a single season. Killorn, Hagel, Hedman and Point scored for the Lightning while Stamkos added three assists. Talbot earned the win for Ottawa in making 19 saves while Elliott took the loss for Tampa Bay with 33 saves.
