LAST GAME
The Hurricanes suffered a 5-3 loss against the Nashville Predators at PNC Arena on Thursday, marking their first regulation loss on home ice since 11/23. Paul Stastny, Brady Skjei and Jordan Staal each scored for Carolina in Staal’s 700th game with the team, and Martin Necas tallied an assist to extend his career-long point streak to seven games. Brett Pesce also recorded two primary assists for just the fourth time in his career, while Max Pacioretty registered six shots and two hits in his Hurricanes debut. Carolina posted 67 shots on goal, setting a new franchise single-game record for shots, and the Hurricanes became the fourth team in NHL history (first since 1981) to have six different players register six or more shots. Pyotr Kochetkov made 20 saves in net.

HURRICANES vs. BLUE JACKETS SERIES NOTES
— Carolina is facing Columbus in the second of three meetings between the teams during the 2022-23 season. The Hurricanes will return to Nationwide Arena on 1/12.
— The Hurricanes and Blue Jackets are meeting for the 55th time in their regular-season histories. Carolina holds a 29-18-7 overall record, including a 14-10-2 road record.
— Carolina leads the season series 1-0-0 in 2022-23 (Columbus: 0-1-0).

— Blue Jackets Goaltending Coach Manny Legace was drafted by the Whalers in the eighth round (188th overall) of the 1993 NHL Draft but was traded to LAK (7/31/98) before playing a game with the franchise. Legace later signed with Carolina as a free agent on 11/9/09 and played 28 games during the 2009-10 season, registering a 10-7-5 record, 2.81 goals-against average, .907 save percentage and one shutout with the Hurricanes.
