LAST TIME IN THE CAP ONE:
The Flames last trip to Capital One Arena was back in October of 2021 when they took on the Capitals amid a five-game road swing. Elias Lindholm was the star on that day, recording his second career NHL hat-trick including an even-strength goal, a shorthanded goal, and the overtime winner. Andrew Mangiapane also tallied for Calgary and Dan Vladar started and won his first game as a member of the Flames stopping 25 shots, helping the Flames to a 4-3 overtime victory.

GILBERT’S GRIT:
Defenseman Dennis Gilbert skated in his sixth game with the Flames on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh and recorded his first point as a member of the Flames when he assisted Dillon Dube’s second period marker. That was Gilbert’s first NHL point since December 27th, 2019 when he scored his first NHL goal against the Islanders while he was a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. The 26-year-old has also been a physical presence for the Flames and leads the team with three fights on the season and has 14 hits in his six games.

LOCK IT DOWN:
Through 19 games, the Flames have allowed the second fewest shot-attempts against this season (713). They have 881 shot-attempts for, and their +168 shot-attempt differential is the fourth best in the NHL so far this season. They also have the third best shots-for per game average in the NHL (35.7), and the best among Western Conference clubs.

SCOOBY DUBE DOO:
Dillon Dube has now scored in back-to-back games after he deflected a Chris Tanev point shot on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. The Golden, BC native has now scored in all three trips he has made to PPG Paints Arena in his NHL career dating back to the 2019-20 campaign and has five points in seven career games against the Penguins.

SPIN THE BLOCK:
Nikita Zadorov put his body on the line for his team on Wednesday against the Penguins when he blocked a team-high eight shots, including a crucial block in overtime. Chris Tanev had four shot blocks as well and currently leads the Flames with 38 blocked shots followed by Noah Hanifin who has 31. All Flames defensemen who have played at least 14 games this season have over 20 blocked shots.

RASMUS HAND-ERSSON:
When the Flames and Penguins couldn’t find a winner in overtime on Wednesday night, Rasmus Andersson had his named called again in the shootout and Swedish defenseman converted for the second time this season. Along with teammate Jonathan Huberdeau who also scored in Wednesday night’s shootout, they are two of six skaters in the NHL to be 100% in the shootout with at least two attempts so far in 2022-23.
