The Flames headed out on the road for three-game road trip starting with the New York Islanders on Monday night. Calgary would open the scoring in the first period with a goal by Mikael Backlund. The Flames would lead 3-1 heading into the final frame but the Islanders would battle back to send this game to overtime. In the extra frame, an Islanders powerplay would lead to the game winning goal as the Flames drop the first of this road trip 4-3.

DESIMONE DEBUT:
Last night, Nick DeSimone received the lone lap in warm-up as he made his NHL debut last night against the Islanders. DeSimone, a veteran of 274 AHL games, has been apart of the Flames organizations for two season’s and was named the assistant captain of the Calgary Wranglers (AHL) to start this season. The 27-year-old logged one shot and one blocked shot in his debut.

BACKS AT IT:
Thanks to his first period goal last night against the Islanders, Mikael Backlund now has 69 even-strength road goals in his career which is the seventh most in Flames franchise history (tying Johnny Gaudreau). Bacjlund also recorded his 83rd multi-point game of his career – the most among active players on the Calgary Flames roster.

BACK-TO-BACK:
The Flames enter their first back-to-back scenario of the season after last nights overtime loss to the New York Islanders. Calgary was 9-5-2 in the second game of a back-to-back during the 2021-22 season. The Flames will entertain ten of these scenarios during the 2022-23 season.

RING OF FIRE:
The Flames come into New Jersey winning four-straight at the Prudential Center dating back to February 3, 2017. WHAT TO KNOW
The Devils extended their season-high winning streak to six games, after Jersey’s team earned a 4-3 overtime victory at Calgary on Sat. Nov. 5.

It marked the first time since Dec. 16, 1996, to Dec. 20, 1996, that the Devils swept Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver on the same road trip.

It also marked the team’s first six-game winning streak since Mar. 27, 2012, to Apr. 7, 2012, which occurred in the team’s last six game of the 2011-12 season.

The last time that the Devils won seven consecutive games in a single season was Feb. 6, 2011, to Feb. 19, 2011. That streak then extended to eight games on Feb. 22.

After Saturday’s win, the Devils allowed more than 25 shots in consecutive games for first time this season.

Side note…On Oct. 12, 2022, Andy Greene officially signed a one-day contract and retired as a Devil. The Trenton, Michigan native’s 923 regular-season games played ranks seventh all-time in franchise history, and third all-time for defensemen in franchise history.

Taylor Daneyko, his daughter, raised the illuminated pitchfork to light up “The Rock” prior to puck drop. His wife, Margaret, presented him with a silver stick on behalf of the Devils to celebrate his 40 seasons and his 1,000th NHL game (Oct. 30, 1999). His son, Shane, then sang the national anthem.
