April 4, 2023 – CALGARY FLAMES [3] vs. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS [4]
The Calgary Flames began their final back-to-back set of the season last night when they welcomed the Chicago Blackhawks to the Scotiabank Saddledome. Chicago struck first courtesy of Andreas Athanasiou to go up 1-0, but Tyler Toffoli would respond for Calgary to draw the Flames level. Chicago would add one more before the end of the frame to go into the intermission up 2-1. Noah Hanifin scored the only goal of the second off a slick three-way passing play with Coleman and Huberdeau picking up assists to tie the game at two’s through 40. In the third, Chicago struck twice in the periods opening four minutes, and that would prove to be the difference as Backlund would score late for the Flames, but Chicago held on for a 4-3 win.

TONIGHTS STORYLINES & STATS
This is the third and final matchup this season between the Flames and Jets. The Flames have gone 1-1-0 against Winnipeg this season with the home team winning 3-2 in both matchups. FLAMES VERSUS THE JETS THIS SEASON:
The Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets get set to meet for the third and final time this season and the second time at the Canada Life Centre. In meeting one the Flames came out of the gates flying with Elias Lindholm scoring just 3:23 into the game. Neal Pionk would tie the game for the Jets before Adam Ruzicka helped the Flames retake the lead heading into the break. The two teams would trade goals in the second with Dubois scoring for Winnipeg and Trevor Lewis recording a shorthanded marker for the Flames which would hold up to be the game winner. Calgary would lock things down in the third to knock off the Jets 3-2. In meeting number two, both teams were firing the puck early with a combined 24 first period shots but Jacob Markstrom and Connor Hellebuyck stood tall, and the game remained scoreless through 20. In the second, Brenden Dillon and Nikita Zadorov traded goals to make it 1-1 through 40. In the third Josh Morrissey gave the Jets their lead back before Mikael Backlund found himself in alone and slid his eighth on the campaign through the legs of Hellebuyck to tie the game once again. The Jets scored late in the third and would hold on for a 3-2 win.

QUICK HITS:
Noah Hanifin scored his seventh goal of the season last night, giving him the third-most goals, he’s recorded in a single season. Hanifin also added an assist for his fourth multi-point effort on the campaign and was third on the team in ice-time last night, logging 21:42 of TOI. Tyler Toffoli had a team-high five shots against Chicago and was rewarded with his team-leading 34th goal of the campaign. Chris Tanev returned to the lineup after missing six games due to injury, skating in 18:33 of ice-time.
