The Calgary Flames continued a five-game road trip on Thursday night with their one and only trip to the KeyBank Center. The two teams would trade goals in the first with Jonathan Huberdeau and Walker Duehr scoring for the Flames, countered by Erik Johnson and Tage Thompson for Buffalo in a busy opening 20 minutes. There would be no scoring in the second, before Blake Coleman got the scoring in the third started just under two minutes into the final frame. JJ Peterka would once again draw Buffalo level, before Adam Ruzicka gave the Flames their fourth lead of the night. TONIGHTS STORYLINES & STATS
This is the first of two meetings this season between the Flames and Blue Jackets. The Flames and Blue Jackets split the season-series in 2022-23, with the home team winning both matchups. This is a Pacific Division versus Metropolitan Division matchup; This will be the Flames have a record of 0-1-1 against Metropolitan Division teams and a record of 1-1-1 against Eastern Conference opponents.

LAST MEETING WITH THE JACKETS:
The Flames and Blue Jackets last meeting came on January 23rd, 2023 at the Saddledome. Calgary came out of the gates hot that night and despite a solid opening frame from Jackets netminder Jonas Korpisalo, the Flames were able to find the back of the net with Walker Duehr scoring his first home goal in the NHL to give the Flames a 1-0 lead through 20. In the second, Nazem Kadri extended the Flames lead before the Jackets scored a pair of quick goals from Kriill Marchenko and Patrik Laine to even the score at twos. Andrew Mangiapane restored the Flames lead, but Boone Jenner would once again tie the game for the Jackets and overtime was required. In the extra frame, Andrew Mangiapane found himself on a two-on-one with Dillon Dube who took the feed from Mangiapane to rifle home the game-winner and the Flames prevailed 4-3.

BACK-TO-BACKS:
The Flames get set for the second leg of their first back-to-back set of the 2023-24 season after a 4-3 victory in Buffalo last night. In 2022-23, the Flames were 2-6-2 in the first half of back-to-backs, but 6-2-2 in the second half. Calgary will play in back-to-back scenarios eight times this season with their next set coming November 10th in Toronto and November 11th in Ottawa.
