BLUE JACKETS NOTES
HOME AT NATIONWIDE
The Blue Jackets have won three of their last five games after starting the season 0-3-0. During the five-game stretch the club has averaged 4.00 goals-per-game. Columbus started the week off with a 6-3 loss vs. Arizona on Tuesday and plays one more game at home vs. Boston on Friday before embarking on a week-long road trip first stopping in New Jersey on October 30th before flying to Finland to face the Avalanche as a part of the 2022 NHL Global Series. Friday concludes a stretch of five of six contests played at Nationwide Arena from Oct. 18-28. The club also plays 14 (13 at NWA) of its first 20 games of the season at home.

HOCKEY HALLOWEEN
The Columbus Blue Jackets are excited to host Hockey Halloween on Friday. Fans can expect a spooky good time with a variety of Halloween-themed festivities for fans of all ages. The first 3,000 children ages 13 and under will receive a trick-or-treating pillowcase upon entry. Trick-or-treating will take place around the main concourse from 6-7 p.m. Fans are invited to wear costumes to the game and will have an opportunity to participate in a costume contest with a chance to win a Game Night Suite including food and beverages. Entertainment will be provided pre-game by Los Borirengues Del Swing, which will play music celebrating Día de Muertos from 6-6:30 p.m. Face painters and airbrush artists will be located throughout the concourse to help get faces a little ghoulish for the game.

THE COMEBACK JACKETS
Columbus earned victories when trailing by multiple goals in back-to-back wins over Vancouver (2-0) on Oct. 18 and Nashville (2-0 and 3-1) on Oct. 20. It was the fifth time in franchise history that the team has earned consecutive multi-goal comeback wins (MR: Feb. 8-10, 2022). These victories have a familiar feeling to the club’s wins in 2021-22 when CBJ set a franchise record after coming back at some point in the game in 23 of their 37 wins. The club finished sixth in the NHL in comeback victories last season. The team also trailed only Florida (11) with nine come-from-behind victories when trailing heading into the third period.

ROOKIE REPORT
The club’s rookies, consisting of forwards Liam Foudy and Kent Johnson, along with defenseman Nick Blankenburg have had a strong start to the season, combining for 4-5-9 in eight games. The trio have helped CBJ rank second among NHL teams in both goals and points, trailing only the Ottawa Senators (7-4-11 in 6 GP). Johnson (3-2-5 in 7 GP) has recorded goals in three-straight games (3-0-3) and points in four consecutive outings (3-1-4) and is one game shy of tying the franchise record for longest-goal/points streak for a rookie. Matt Calvert owns the longest goal streak by a rookie, recording goals in four-straight from Feb. 18-28, 2011. Six different rookies have recorded five-game points streaks in CBJ history with Emil Bemstrom most recently accomplishing the feat from Nov. 7- 19, 2019.

GOING GLOBAL
The Blue Jackets and Colorado Avalanche face off in a pair of 2022-23 regular-season games at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5 as part of the 2022 NHL Global Series. Columbus will head to Helsinki, Finland following its contest at New Jersey on Oct. 30. The team has several Finns on the club. General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen is a native of Kuopio, Finland and the NHL’s first European-born general manager while left wing Patrik Laine (Tampere) and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo (Helsinki) also hail from the country. Columbus will practice in Helsinki, Finland on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and then in Tampere, Finland on Thursday, Nov. 3 prior to taking on Colorado in the two games.

HERE’S JOHNNY!
Six-time All-Star left wing Johnny Gaudreau leads the club in scoring with 5-3-8 in eight games while recording points in six of his eight contests. The winger, who had his five-game points streak snapped on Sunday, has recorded points in all five home games this season (4-2-6) after scoring the Blue Jackets first goal on Tuesday vs. Arizona. It’s the third-longest home points-streak to start a player’s tenure in franchise history. He played in his 302nd consecutive game on Tuesday, the third-longest active iron man streak in the NHL and trailing only Phil Kessel (990) and Brent Burns (685). The Salem, New Jersey native, who signed a seven-year contract with Columbus in July, has collected 215-402-617 in 610 NHL games, including a career-high 40-75-115 in 82 games with Calgary last season when he earned First Team All-NHL honors.

Boone Jenner notched his first goal of the season last Saturday vs. Pittsburgh and has recorded 1-3-4 in eight games this season. He ranks sixth in the NHL in faceoff wins (99-of-167 faceoffs; 59.3 pct.). The 29-year-old, who was selected 37th overall at the 2011 NHL Draft, is the longest-tenured Blue Jacket in his 10th season with the club, including his second as the team’s captain. The forward is tied with David Savard for the fourth-most games played in club history. He also ranks third on the franchise’s all-tine list in goals and fifth in points with 145-143-288.

He collected multi-point efforts in each game of the back-to-back set over the weekend, recording a goal and an assist vs. Pittsburgh on Saturday and two assists at the Rangers on Sunday. The 25-year-old center set career highs for the fourth time in as many seasons in 2021-22, finishing with 22-23-45 and 10 multi-point efforts in 81 appearances.

WHAT TO WATCH
Defenseman Zach Werenski recorded an assist on Tuesday against the Coyotes to give him points in two-straight games (1-1-2; 2-2-4 in 8 GP). The All-Star blueliner set single-season career highs in assists, points and time on ice and posted the third-most assists (tied) and points by a defenseman in a single season in franchise history with 11-37-48 and 25:40 TOI in 68 games in 2021-22. He ranks ninth-T among NHL blueliners in points-per-game (min. 20 GP) dating back to Feb. 10, 2022 in recording 7-20-27 in 34 contests (.79).

UP IN CLEVELAND
Columbus’ AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, have kicked off the 2022-23 season going 3-3-0, with all three victories earned after regulation.
