NHL Morning Skate – Nov. 17, 2021

Ryan Getzlaf and Troy Terry each assisted on the Ducks’ 1-0 goal Tuesday, with the former reaching the 1,000-point milestone and the latter extending his career-high point streak to 15 games.

* The Panthers pounced on the Islanders to extend their lengthy home winning streak and remain atop the NHL standings.

 

* Wednesday’s three-game slate opens with another head-to-head meeting between defensemen Cale Makar and Quinn Hughes.

 

GETZLAF REACHES 1,000-POINT MILESTONE AS TERRY, DUCKS EXTEND STREAKS
Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf got an assist at 3:32 of the opening frame and became the first player in franchise history to record 1,000 points with Anaheim (280-720—1,000 in 1,118 GP).

* Getzlaf became the seventh active NHL player to record 1,000 or more points with one franchise, joining Alex Ovechkin with WashingtonSidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin with PittsburghPatrick Kane with ChicagoJoe Thornton with San Jose and Anze Kopitar with Los Angeles.

Troy Terry also tallied an assist and extended his career-high point streak to 15 games (11-10—21), which now trails only two players for the longest in franchise history. Trevor Zegras (2-0—2) scored in overtime and has recorded the winning goal in each of the last two games for Anaheim, which extended its winning and point streak to eight and 10 contests (8-0-2), respectively.

FIRST-PLACE FLORIDA DEFEATS NY ISLANDERS; OTHER DIVISION LEADERS KEEP PACE

The League-leading Panthers (11-2-3, 25 points) triumphed Tuesday, while the Hurricanes (12-2-0, 24 points) and Jets (9-3-3, 21 points) also earned wins to keep pace:

* The Panthers produced six goals and Sergei Bobrovsky made 27 saves as Florida defeated New York, which concluded its 13-game season-opening road trip. The Panthers improved to 8-0-0 at FLA Live Arena this season and matched their longest home winning streak at any point in a campaign, a mark set from Feb. 22–March 10, 2018. Florida has earned victories in each of its last 12 regular-season home contests dating to April 24, which is also the longest such run in franchise history (spanning seasons).

Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis scored the first game-winning goal of his NHL career, vaulting the visitors to victory in Vegas. Carolina, which maintained its lead atop the Metropolitan Division standings, owns 12 wins through 14 games in a season for the first time in franchise history.

Kyle Connor scored his 12th goal of the season (12-8—20 in 15 GP) – tied for the second most in the NHL – as the Jets earned their fifth straight win against the Oilers dating to Game 1 of the 2021 First Round. Only one player has recorded more goals through their first 15 games played in a season with the Jets/Thrashers: Ilya Kovalchuk (13 G in 2009-10, 2007-08 & 2003-04).

NATIONAL TELECASTS HEAD WEST ON SPORTSNET AND TNT

Wednesday will feature a pair of national telecasts, with Sportsnet airing the second head-to-head meeting in less than a week between defensemen Cale Makar and Quinn Hughes and TNT carrying the first-ever meeting between the Blackhawks and Kraken.

 

 

CAPITALS TO FACE YET ANOTHER STREAKING TEAM

After falling Tuesday to the Ducks, the Capitals will face yet another streaking opponent when they continue their California road trip against the Kings – who are riding an eight-game point streak (7-0-1). Los Angeles has had two point streaks of nine or more games over the past eight seasons: (8-0-1 in 2017-18 and 7-0-2 in 2015-16).
