GAME NOTES
Over the last three drafts, the Jets have made a total of 18 selections, including picking eight times in the first 36 selections. Of those eight picks, five were first-round selections. Among the 11 players selected during the 2020-21 Drafts, all have had an immediate impact on the team, starting a total of 122 games over the last two seasons.
QUALITY EXPERIENCE: Since being named General Manager in June 2019, Joe Douglas has shown that the search for players never stops. During his tenure, Douglas has remained active in free agency, viewing it as another opportunity to players who have experienced team success on the NFL level. In 2021, he signed multiple veterans with playoff experience to help guide a young roster as they strive to obtain his goal of bringing a winning culture to One Jets Drive.
One of the 2021 free agents is two-time Jets team captain (2021-22) and special teams contributor Justin Hardee, who has appeared in seven career playoff games. Additionally, wide receiver Corey Davis, another 2021 free agent signing, has appeared in six playoff games throughout his career. On the defensive side, defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins, a 2021 free agent signing, brings five games of playoff experience to the team.
While the 2021 offseason brought playoff experience to the Jets, the 2022 free agency furthered that effort by adding multiple veterans
with Super Bowl experience. Cornerback D.J. Reed, Pro Bowl guard Laken Tomlinson, tight end C.J. Uzomah, and safety Jordan Whitehead have all played in one of the last three Super Bowls. In addition to the postseason experience the signings brought in players all under the age of 30, with the exception of Tomlinson who turned 30 earlier this year.
LEADING THE WAY: The Jets finished the preseason among the top five in the League in multiple offensive categories, including sacks allowed (T-1st), points per game (2nd), pass yards per play (4th), and total yards per play (5th). Additionally, their 100% score rate (7/7) in the red zone ranked first in the NFL. This marks the first time since 2001 that the team has not allowed a sack in three consecutive games.
WAIVER WINS: Further emphasizing the well-rounded players the Jets have brought in, the team has a league-high 11 waived players claimed off of waivers since the start of training camp to final cut downs (8/31).
