  • Senior receiver and kick return specialist Keylon Stokes entered the 2021 season ranked third on the school’s career all-purpose yardage chart with 3,956 yards.

 

  • In the season opener, Stokes totaled 116 all-purpose yards and went over the 4,000-yard plateau.

 

  • After two games this year, Stokes now has 4,108 career all-purpose yards.

 

  • Damaris Johnson (2008-10) ranks first on the all-purpose chart with 7,796 yards and Trey Watts (2010-13) is second with 5,877 career yards.

 

  • In 44 career games, Stokes has caught 161 passes for 2,516 yards, has 61 kickoff returns for 1,253 yards, 220 rushing yards and 119 punt return yards.

 

  • Stokes is ranked 11th on the school’s career receiving chart with 2,516 yards and needs 827 yards to tie Howard Twilley (1963-65) for the school record.

Sharks re-sign Forward Noah Gregor

SAN JOSE, CA – San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed forward Noah Gregor (@n_gregs20) to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

 

“Noah showed last season that he has the tools to be an effective player at the NHL level by utilizing his speed,” said Wilson. “We feel that he will elevate the competition among our forward group for a roster spot this season.”

 

Gregor, 23, appeared in 30 games for the Sharks in 2020-21, recording six points (5g, 1a) and set career highs in games played, goals, points and shots (60). He also spent time with the San Jose Barracuda, San Jose’s top developmental affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), recording nine points (3g, 6a) in 10 games.

 

Over the course of his NHL career, he has appeared in 58 games scoring 11 points (five goals, three assists) and 14 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 35 career AHL games, registering 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists).

 

Prior to his professional career, Gregor skated in 257 career Western Hockey League (WHL) games with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Victoria Royals, and Prince Albert Raiders. He helped lead Prince Albert to a WHL Championship in 2018-19, scoring 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists) in 23 contests. He finished second in postseason goals, was tied for third in points, ranked fifth in assists and was named the WHL Player of the Game in the Final after posting three points (two goals, one assist) in Game 7. During the 2015-16 season, he was named to the CHL Top Prospects Game and led all WHL rookies in the regular season in assists (45). In addition, Gregor was teammates on Moose Jaw with fellow Sharks prospect Jayden Halbgewachs from 2014-17.

 

Internationally, Gregor skated with Team Canada at the 2016 U-18 World Junior Championship where he posted two assists in five games.

 

The six-foot, 185-pound native of Beaumont, Alberta, was originally selected by San Jose in the 2016 NHL Draft (fourth round, 111th overall).

27-Year-Old Former Chelsea Product Joins LAFC As A Free Agent

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today the signing of free agent goalkeeper Jamal Blackman. Blackman will occupy an international slot through 2021, with a Club option for 2022 and will be added to LAFC’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa.

“Jamal is a talented goalkeeper and an important addition to the Club” said Co-President and General Manager John Thorrington, “We look forward to welcoming him and are confident that he will prove to be a great fit with his skills and experience.”

Blackman, 27, made his way through the ranks of the Chelsea Academy as a youth player and originally signed a professional contract with Chelsea in 2012. He was a member of Chelsea’s 2012 UEFA Champions League Final roster and also was on the senior roster when Chelsea were crowned the champions of the English Premier League in 2015-16.

The six-foot-six goalkeeper is a former youth international for England, representing the national team at the U-17 and U-19 levels.

The native of Croydon, England joins LAFC after spending the 2020-21 season on loan with Rotherham United of the English Championship where he made 28 appearances in all competitions and recorded six clean sheets.

Since 2016, Chelsea has loaned Blackman to six different clubs in Sweden and England. Jamal was loaned to Swedish side Östersund in 2016 where he made 12 appearances across all competitions. During the 2016-17 season Blackman returned to English football and played in 42 matches with League Two side Wycombe Wanderers. In 2017, Jamal registered nine shutouts in 31 games for Sheffield United of the English Championship. Blackman spent 2018-19 with Leeds United of the English Championship and then made 10 appearances for the Bristol Rovers of English League One, registering three clean sheets.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw from the 60-day injured list and designated outfielder Steven Souza Jr. for assignment.

 

Kershaw, 33, was placed on the injured list July 7 with left elbow inflammation and missed 57 games. Prior to the injury, he was 9-7 with a 3.39 ERA (40 ER/106.1 IP) and 127 strikeouts against 19 walks in 18 starts this season. He made one rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts on September 7. The three-time Cy Young award winner has been with the Dodgers since being drafted as the seventh overall selection in the 2006 First Year Player Draft out of Highland Park High School and is 184 -83 with a 2.48 ERA (671 ER/2439.1 IP) and 2,653 strikeouts.

 

Souza Jr., 32, made four appearances in his second stint with the Dodgers, going 1-for-8 with an RBI. In 17 games for the Dodgers this season, he batted .152 with three RBI. He has spent his Major League career with Washington (2014), Tampa Bay (2015-2017), Arizona (2018), Chicago (2020) and Los Angeles, slashing combined .230/.320/.414 with 72 homers and 206 RBI in 499 games. He signed with the Dodgers as a minor league free agent on April 12.

Pirates claim RHP Enyel De Los Santos off waivers

The Pirates have claimed RHP Enyel De Los Santos off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies. In 26 relief appearances with the Phillies this season, De Los Santos posted a 1-1 record, a 6.75 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 28.0 innings of work.

 

De Los Santos struck out at least one batter in 22 of his 26 games this season and averaged 13.5 strikeouts per 9.0ip.

 

The 25-year-old native of the Dominican Republic made his Major League debut with the Phillies in 2018 and has made a total of 38 appearances (three starts) in his three seasons in the big leagues.

 

To make room on the 40-man roster for De Los Santos, LHP Steven Brault has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Kyle Barraclough recalled from Triple-A St. Paul

 

NEW YORK, NY – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed outfielder Brent Rooker on the Paternity List.

 

Rooker and his wife, Allie, are awaiting the arrival of their first child (a girl) in Minneapolis. The 26-year-old has appeared in 44 games for the Twins this season, hitting .203 (31-for-153) with eight doubles, seven home runs, 13 RBI, 21 runs scored and 12 walks.

 

To replace Rooker on the 28-man roster, the Twins have recalled right-handed pitcher Kyle Barraclough from Triple-A St. Paul. Barraclough has appeared in 21 games for the Saints this season, going 4-1 with a 2.49 ERA (25.1 IP, 7 ER), 10 walks, 38 strikeouts and a 0.99 WHIP. The right-hander also appeared in three games with the Twins between August 20-26, allowing four runs on four hits in 3.1 innings pitched, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Nevada and Kansas State will meet up for the first time in history on Saturday.

The last time the Pack faced a Big 12 opponent was on Sept. 24, 2011, when Nevada traveled to Lubbock, Texas, to play Texas Tech. The Raiders defeated Nevada, 35-34

 

PACK MOVES TO 2-0

Nevada opened its 2021 season with a 22-17 victory over the California Golden Bears in Berkeley on Sept. 4. Prior to the win over Cal, Nevada’s last road win at a Power 5 team also came at Cal when Nevada defeated the Golden Bears 31-24 on Sept. 1, 2012. After Cal opened the game with a 14-0 lead, Nevada scored 22 unanswered points to lead the remainder of the game. Carson Strong threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns, posting his ninth 300-yard passing game of his career. Kicker Brandon Talton recorded his 12th multi-FG game of his career after going 3-for-4 for Nevada. Romeo Doubs finished with six catches for 83 yards and a touchdown, Cole Turner led all Pack receivers with seven catches (for 75 yards), and WR Tory Horton led the Pack with 94 receiving yards on three catches. Elijah Cooks recorded his first touchdown since the 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Jan. 3, 2020. The Pack defense came up clutch to secure Nevada’s victory. Cornerback Isaiah Essissima, a transfer from Wake Forest, made his first interception in a Nevada jersey in his Wolf Pack debut, stopping a late fourth-quarter Cal drive with a pick. Sam Hammond and Daniel Grzesiak tallied sacks for the Pack, including Hammond’s 13-yard loss which resulted in a missed Cal field goal attempt. JoJuan Claiborne led the Pack defense with 10 tackles (eight solo) and shared a tackle-for-loss.

 

Nevada handled business on Sept. 11 in its first home game of the 2021 season. The Pack defeated Idaho State, 49-10. Carson Strong powered the Pack offense, throwing for 381 yards and four touchdowns. Strong completed 34 of 43 passes, including two touchdowns to Elijah Cooks, who finished with seven receptions for 89 yards. Devonte Lee recorded a 2-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth. Cole Turner had a touchdown catch. Backup quarterback Nate Cox stepped in the game in the fourth quarter, delivering a 43-yard touchdown to Harry Ballard.

 

GAME OF FIRSTS

Backup quarterback Nate Cox stepped into the Idaho State game in the fourth quarter, tossing a 43-yard touchdown pass to Harry Ballard for both of their first career touchdown passes and receptions in a Wolf Pack uniform. Senior running back Devonte Lee also made his first-career touchdown reception, a 15-yard pass from Carson Strong with 11:03 left in the fourth quarter against Idaho State.

 

AIR ESSISSIMA

Isaiah Essissima recorded his first collegiate interception in his first night in a Wolf Pack uniform at Cal, grabbing a game-clinching interception with 04:29 left to play. Essissima, a Wake Forest transfer, started in his first game for Nevada and tallied four tackles and an interception.

 

PACK DEFENSE SHINES BRIGHT AGAINST BENGALS

The Nevada defense provided spark in the Pack’s routing of Idaho State on Saturday. Lawson Hall led the defense with 10 total tackles, including a sack and forced fumble. Tristan Nichols also had a strong output, totaling four tackles and three sacks for a combined loss of 17 yards. Daiyan Henley racked up eight tackles and recorded two pass break ups. The Pack defense combined for eight sacks and two forced fumbles, including a strip-sack by Tristan Nichols that resulted in a Dom Peterson return for a touchdown.

 

HONORING HIS SISTER

Grad transfer defensive back Bentlee Sanders announced on his Twitter account (@2Bsanders0) that he and the Nevada football program are dedicating the month of September to those who have lost their battle and who are still fighting mental illness. Sanders, who lost his sister to suicide in 2014, wants to raise awareness and build support for mental health. The Pack have placed a navy blue and green ribbon on the back of their helmets for the entirety of September.
