NBA Preview: Sacramento Kings (45-30) at Portland Trail Blazers (32-43)

0

In their initial attempt to secure their first playoff berth since 2006, the Sacramento Kings failed miserably.

The Kings will make one more effort to end the longest postseason dry spell in pro athletics when they visit the oppressed Portland Pioneers on Wednesday night.

Sacramento (45-30) is on the verge of ending that dreadful 16-season streak, but it was unable to do so when it lost 119-115 to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.

Because this is the first of two games against the Trail Blazers in a row, securing a victory over Portland (34-43) feels like a formality.

Additionally, according to a report from Bleacher Report, Portland has lost nine of its last ten games and will be without star guard Damian Lillard (calf), who has been ruled out for the season.

In 58 games this season, Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds.

Harrison Barnes, a forward for the Kings, sees the bigger picture as well. He would have liked to see the home crowd celebrate the milestone.

In the game against Minnesota, Fox scored 29 points, while fellow All-Star Domantas Sabonis added 24 points and 10 rebounds. However, compared to the Timberwolves’ 33 assists, the Kings were only 5 of 27 from three-point range.

Keegan Murray was 1 of 6 from 3-point range however tied Lillard (185) for the second-most 3-pointers by a new kid on the block in NBA history. Donovan Mitchell holds the record with 187, which he set while playing for the Utah Jazz from 2017 to 2018.

Portland is playing out the remainder of a second consecutive disappointing season while the Kings, who are third in the Western Conference, are anticipating the postseason.

Before their recent slump, the Trail Blazers were on the outside of the play-in tournament race.

However, Lillard and fellow starters Jerami Grant (quadriceps), Jusuf Nurkic (knee), and Anfernee Simons (foot) all sat out of Monday’s 124-90 home loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Before the game started, Portland was down 30-12, and it was down 58-35 at halftime. In the end, the deficit reached 36.

After having the best three games of his career, including 29 points in Sunday’s 118-112 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, rookie Shaedon Sharpe fell back to earth against New Orleans.

Sharpe scored 10 in garbage time after scoring two points in the first three quarters against the Pelicans and averaging 25.7 points during that stretch. He made 5 of 13 shots for 12 points.

Nassir Little, who had a season-high 28 points in the game against Oklahoma City, only scored seven points on three of ten attempts.

Keon Johnson matched his vocation high of 20 focuses to lead the drained Pioneers against the Pelicans.

Earlier this season, the Kings and Trail Blazers split two games.

NBA Preview: Minnesota Timberwolves (39-37) at Phoenix Suns (40-35)

0

The Phoenix Suns are expected to have superstar Kevin Durant back in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are visiting.

Durant, who was acquired from the Brooklyn Nets at the trade deadline last month, appeared in three games on the road before breaking his left ankle in pregame warmups on March 8.

Despite Durant’s absence from the lineup, Phoenix (40-35) remains in fourth place in the Western Conference playoff race. The two-time Finals MVP has been eagerly awaited by Suns fans to make his home debut.

The Suns appear to be moving in the right direction, so adding Durant to the mix is a good move. Phoenix defeated the Utah Jazz 117-103 on Monday to record its second consecutive victory.

The Suns, led by Devin Booker’s 24 points, outscored Utah 57-25 in bench points. Deandre Ayton scored 14 points on his return after missing four games with a bruised hip. Reserves Terrence Ross, Cameron Payne, and Bismack Biyombo scored 36 points together.

Phoenix has also seen a boost from its bench over the past week, as Booker has scored an average of 31.7 points in the 10 games Booker has played without Durant.

Minnesota (39-37), which is vying for sixth place in the Western Conference playoff race, has been the opponent for Phoenix in two of the first three meetings this season.

On Monday, Minnesota defeated the Sacramento Kings 119-115 to extend its winning streak to four games. Jaden McDaniels scored 20 focuses to lead the Wolves. Karl-Anthony Towns passed on the game because of injury the board for his right calf strain, however he ought to be accessible against the Suns.

In the victory over Sacramento, Rudy Gobert had 16 points and 16 rebounds, Anthony Edwards had 17 points, and Naz Reid had 18 points. With the victory, Minnesota got within a half-game of the Suns for the No. 1 spot. 4 seed.

Reid, who has started the last five games and is averaging 20.2 points off the bench, has sparked the Wolves’ recent upswing.

NBA Preview: Utah Jazz (35-40) at San Antonio Spurs (19-56)

0

The Utah Jazz still have a chance to play in the Western Conference play-in tournament, but Wednesday’s road game against the San Antonio Spurs, who are having trouble, has become a game that they almost have to win.

With seven games remaining in the regular season, the Jazz (35-40) are 12th in the West, 1 1/2 games behind the Dallas Mavericks and two games behind the ninth-place Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder. Utah cannot afford to lose to San Antonio (19-56), which has long been ruled out of the postseason, and has lost four straight to exit the play-in bracket.

Utah’s final six games are against teams that have already qualified for the playoffs or are in a position to do so after playing the Spurs. The Jazz will play three games on the road starting with the game on Wednesday, followed by games in Boston and Brooklyn.

Utah’s latest game was a 117-103 difficulty at home to Phoenix on Monday. After coming back from a deficit of double digits to take the lead late in the third quarter, the Jazz were outscored 33-22 in the fourth, but they never recovered.

On Monday, Utah was led by Lauri Markkanen, who scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Walker Kessler added 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven blocks, Talen Horton-Tucker scored 16 points, and Kelly Olynyk scored 10.

Additionally, San Antonio has lost four straight, all on the road. Sunday’s 137-93 defeat to Boston, San Antonio’s sixth defeat in its last seven games, was the latest setback in their forgettable season.

In the loss on Sunday, San Antonio was led by Zach Collins, who had 21 points and seven rebounds. Malaki Branham had 15, Sandro Mamukelashvili had 13, and Tre Jones had 11. For the fourth time in five games, the Spurs were without starters Jeremy Sochan (sore right knee) and Keldon Johnson (injured right foot).

Johnson has the best chance of playing against Utah on Wednesday.

San Antonio got within six points early in the third period, but that didn’t seem to wake up the Celtics, who went on a 24-11 run to end the period and never looked back. Late in the game, Boston increased its lead to as much as 47.

In two of the three games between San Antonio and Utah this season, San Antonio has prevailed.

NBA Preview: Detroit Pistons (16-59) at Oklahoma City Thunder (37-39)

0

The Oklahoma City Thunder can’t afford to pass up a chance to play in the Western Conference play-in tournament with just six games remaining.

The Thunder will play the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday in Oklahoma City, one night after losing to them at home against the Charlotte Hornets.

Coach Mark Daigneault of Oklahoma City stated that the possibility would not affect the organization’s development plan, despite the fact that his team is fighting for its first playoff appearance since 2020.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could miss the Thunder’s (37-39) second straight game. In a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday, the All-Star suffered a sprained left ankle.

Aleksej Pokusevski returned to Oklahoma City for Tuesday’s game. With a non-displaced fracture in his left leg, the forward, who was in his third year, had missed 41 games. During the Thunder’s 137-134 loss to the Hornets, Pokusevski did not score for nearly ten minutes.

Isaiah Joe paced Oklahoma City with 33 focuses on Tuesday, and Josh Giddey just missed a triple-twofold, ending up with a profession high 31 focuses in addition to 10 bounce back and nine helps. At the buzzer, Jalen Williams attempted a 3-point shot that would have forced overtime. However, he missed.

The Thunder and the Dallas Mavericks are 37-39 in a tie for 10th place in the Western Conference, the final play-in spot.

Six games in a row and 17 of their last 18 games have been lost by the Pistons (16-59). They had lost five games in a row by at least 12 points before losing 126-117 on Monday to the visiting Milwaukee Bucks.

Jaden Ivey, a rookie, has been a bright spot for Detroit during yet another disappointing season. He just scored 32 points, a career high, against the Bucks.

However, his teammates and coaches are paying the most attention to Ivey’s activities outside of scoring. On Monday, he also had eight rebounds and eight assists.

Ivey has also settled into his position as a point guard, forming a connection with rookie center Jalen Duren in particular.

The teams will play in their final two games of the season on Wednesday. On Nov. 7, the Pistons defeated the Thunder 112-103 in Detroit.

On Wednesday, Ivey is expected to be the only Pistons starter from that game. While Cade Cunningham, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Isaiah Stewart are all out with long-term injuries, Saddiq Bey was traded.

NBA Preview: Los Angeles Clippers (40-36) at Memphis Grizzlies (48-27)

0

With or without star guard Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies continue to demonstrate that they can achieve success.

Their series of wins is at seven games ahead of a two-game visit from the Los Angeles Trimmers beginning Wednesday.

Because of soreness in his right thigh, Morant did not play in Memphis’ 113-108 home win over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. The absence was more of a precaution given that it was the first game of a back-to-back set.

As a result of Morant’s questionable behavior during a live video from a nightclub, the Grizzlies (48-27) began their current winning streak while Morant was away on a self-imposed sabbatical that was changed to a league-mandated suspension.

Morant missed nine games, the first of which was on March 5, when the Grizzlies lost to the Clippers 135-129 in Los Angeles. Paul George led the Clippers with 42 points in that game, but he won’t play in this one because he is likely to miss the rest of the regular season with a right knee injury.

On Tuesday, Memphis received 31 points from Desmond Bane and a career-high 20 from Xavier Tillman despite not being able to rely on Morant.

Luke Kennard, who was gained by the Grizzlies from the Trimmers in a three-group exchange February, keeps on having an effect in his new group. He scored 16 points Tuesday, connecting on 4 of 5 attempts from three-point range, and has scored an average of 20 points in each of his last three games. In Friday’s playoff-clinching victory over the visiting Houston Rockets, he scored 30 points, all on a franchise-record 10 3-pointers.

The Clippers (40-36) are in fifth place, just one half-game out of fourth, while the Grizzlies (51-24) are in second place in the Western Conference, three games behind the Denver Nuggets. In any case, they are likewise only one game in front of the seventh-place Minnesota Timberwolves (39-37).

Nicolas Batum scored 24 points and connected on 8 of 10 attempts from three-point range in the Clippers’ 124-112 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Monday. Kawhi Leonard had 22 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the game.

Russell Westbrook counted 12 focuses and 10 helps for Los Angeles. After a terrible start in which the team lost its first five games after he signed as a free agent in February, he has become more of a factor.

The Grizzlies and Clippers will play again on Friday in Memphis following their Wednesday matchup. Los Angeles has lost three of its beyond four games at Memphis, including the two challenges last season.

NBA Preview: Los Angeles Lakers (37-38) at Chicago Bulls (36-39)

In the end, LeBron James was no longer interested in returning to the Los Angeles Lakers for the stretch run due to the muddled state of the Western Conference postseason picture.

James played his first game since recovering from a tendon injury in his right foot on Sunday, scoring a team-high 19 points in his 13-game comeback. James is expected to be ready for more when Los Angeles visits the Bulls on Wednesday night, even though it wasn’t enough in the Lakers’ 118-108 home loss to Chicago.

The Lakers (37-38), who went into Tuesday’s game in ninth place in the West, lost on Sunday, snapping a three-game winning streak. The gap between the sixth-place team in the conference and the 10th-place team prior to Tuesday’s action was just 1 1/2 games.

In a similar predicament in the East, Chicago (36-39) entered Tuesday as the No. 10 seed and the final play-in spot in their possession. The Bulls are three games ahead of the Washington Wizards for the final play-in slot with seven regular-season games remaining.

Monday, the Bulls were defeated by the Los Angeles Clippers 124-112 to end a three-game West Coast road trip. The Clippers were able to shoot 59.3% from the field and 50% (20-for-40) from long range against Chicago.

In contrast, the Bulls’ defense against the Lakers on Sunday in the same building was more disciplined.

For the second season in a row, the Bulls want to beat the Lakers in the season series.

They are aware that in order to do so, they will need to quickly forget about their anger from the Clippers game.

The Bulls were without Alex Caruso and Javonte Green because of injuries to their feet and knees. The two players are recorded as problematic for Wednesday.

Chicago’s offense against the Clippers was led by Zach LaVine (23 points), DeMar DeRozan (21 points), and Nikola Vucevic (20 points).

NBA Preview: Dallas Mavericks (37-39) at Philadelphia Sixers (49-26)

On Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks, a team that is fighting for its life in the postseason, will welcome the Philadelphia 76ers back to their home arena in an effort to recover from a difficult road trip.

With a 116-111 loss to Denver on Monday, the 49-26 Philadelphia 76ers suffered their fourth defeat in their last five games, their third in a row.

The contest between Joel Embiid and James Harden for Most Valuable Player was postponed. However, the short-handed 76ers were able to recover from a 22-point deficit in the second half with the assistance of Tyrese Maxey’s 29 points, coming within one possession in the final minute.

Due to calf soreness, Embiid left Philadelphia’s most recent victory, a 116-91 victory over Chicago on Wednesday. He returned with a performance of 46 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists on Friday against Golden State. The following night in Phoenix, he had a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds, but Rivers decided to sit the center for Denver.

In contrast, Harden has missed four games in a row because of an Achilles injury. He has missed five of the 76ers’ last six games.

With Harden out of the picture, Maxey has stepped in to score on the perimeter. Maxey has hit for at least 21 points in each of the last six games, including the 37 points he scored Saturday against Phoenix.

When Philadelphia last played Dallas on March 2, the Mavericks defeated Philadelphia at home 133-126 with Maxey scoring 29 points.

After going 4-8 since then, the Mavericks (37-39) have been steadily losing, but on Monday, they beat Indiana 127-104 to end a four-game losing streak.

Jaden Hardy came off the bench to score 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor while Luka Doncic scored 25 points.

JaVale McGee also scored 10 points and blocked two shots for the Mavericks in just over 13 minutes. The seasoned center played his most minutes since February 10, providing depth off the bench in the victory.

The Mavericks fell out of the top 10 in the Western Conference as a result of Dallas’ slide. With the third game on Wednesday, they continue a crucial five-game road trip and trail Oklahoma City for the West’s final play-in spot.

In this late-season push for the playoffs, the Mavericks will try to keep that “different” approach.

Over the last seven games, Philadelphia, on the other hand, has its own postseason goals. As of Tuesday’s action, the 76ers are three games behind Boston in the race for the No. 2 seed in the East.

Cleveland, which is just 1 1/2 games behind the Sixers in fourth place, is gaining ground on Philadelphia.

NBA Preview: Miami Heat (40-36) at New York Knicks (43-33)

Following New York’s victory over the Houston Rockets on Monday night, the Knicks’ steadfastly strict coach Tom Thibodeau shared his usual bottom-line analysis with a grin.

Either the Knicks or the Miami Heat will have a great time on Wednesday night and make the other team miserable.

When New York hosts Miami in their final regular-season meeting, the Knicks and Heat will each want to make it easier for themselves to finish in the top six of the Eastern Conference.

After cruising to a 137-115 victory over the visiting Rockets on Monday night, the Knicks were off on Tuesday. After losing to the Toronto Raptors by a score of 106-92 on Tuesday, the Heat will be playing their second consecutive road game.

After snapping a losing streak of three games, New York (43-33) is still fifth in the East, two and a half games ahead of the sixth-place Brooklyn Nets (40-35) and three games ahead of the Heat (40-36). The playoff spots go to the top six teams in each conference, and the clubs in seventh through tenth place compete in a play-in tournament to pick the top two seeds.

The Knicks would have the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Heat if they scored another victory on Wednesday, which would further solidify their position in the playoffs. Miami won the most recent meeting in Florida on March 22 by a score of 127-120, despite the fact that New York holds a 2-1 lead in the series.

In their last two games, the Heat have struggled in a playoff-like setting. Miami gradually allowed the Raptors to pull away on Tuesday after losing 129-100 to the visiting Nets on Saturday. After coming back from a 10-point deficit in the first quarter, Toronto led 53-47 at the half. After that, the Raptors outscored the Heat 31-20 in the third quarter, never allowing Miami to close the gap in the fourth.

For the fourteenth consecutive game, Miami allowed at least 100 points, continuing its lengthy defensive slump. The Heat also gave up 62 points in the paint, which is a lot more than Miami’s season average of 46.1 points allowed per game in the paint, which is tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second-fewest in the NBA. With 45.9 points per game, the Knicks lead this group.

It’s possible that both teams won’t have key players for the crucial game.

Jalen Brunson, the point guard for the New York Knicks, missed his second game in a row on Monday because of a sprained right hand. He was listed as questionable for Wednesday.

Heat monitor Jimmy Steward, who drives the group with 22.8 focuses per game, was sidelined Tuesday because of a neck injury.
