Super Eagles have two FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been called up to the Nigeria Men’s National Team for the March FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles will face Rwanda on Friday, March 21, at 12:00 p.m. ET at Stade Amahoro in Kigali, followed by a home match against Zimbabwe at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, on Tuesday, March 25, at 12:00 p.m. ET.

Yusuf has started all three games for the Revolution this season as he begins his first full MLS campaign with New England. Since joining the club from Belgian side Royal Antwerp FC, where he won the 2023 Belgian Pro League title along with Belgian Cup and Super Cup honors, Yusuf has made 10 MLS appearances, starting eight, and contributing two assists.

The Kano, Nigeria native has earned seven caps for the Super Eagles, including two during World Cup qualifiers in June 2024. His most recent national team appearance was in Africa Cup of Nations qualification against Rwanda on November 18, 2024. The 24-year-old midfielder made his senior debut for Nigeria in January 2024 and competed in three matches during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

FIFA World Cup Qualifying Update
Through four of 10 matchdays in the CAF World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria, led by manager Éric Chelle, is in fifth place in Group C with an 0-1-3 record (3 points). Their first opponent, Rwanda, tops the group standings with a 2-1-1 record (7 points), while Zimbabwe currently sits last at 0-2-2 (2 points).

Yusuf will join the Nigerian squad after New England’s away match against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, March 15, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
