On Sunday afternoon, the hapless San Antonio Spurs will play host to the Sacramento Kings, who will be looking to win their third game in a row and continue a season of breakthroughs.
If the Kings (47-30) win any of their next five games, they can win the Pacific Division for the first time since the 2002-03 season. Since 2006, Sacramento has already secured its first playoff berth, is currently third in the West, and can only finish fourth in the conference.
After defeating Portland on the road by a score of 138-114 on Friday, the Kings return home after winning for the second time in three days.
De’Aaron Fox contributed 20 points, 11 assists, and eight boards for Sacramento, which was led by Domantas Sabonis with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists. Kevin Huerter added 14 points, and Keegan Murray and Malik Monk each scored 20 points.
Sacramento has won four of its beyond five challenges. The Kings still trail Memphis in the Western Conference by two games.
Even though the Kings have accomplished a lot this season, Brown said he wouldn’t rest his players until they scored more goals.
San Antonio (19-58) is long out of contention for the postseason and is certain to finish this forgettable season with one of the league’s three worst records. The most recent defeat for the Spurs, a 130-115 defeat at Golden State on Friday, is the sixth in a row.
After three quarters, San Antonio maintained its 88-87 lead and led by as many as nine points. However, the Warriors scored 43 points in the fourth period, beginning with an 11-2 run. San Antonio was never in the game after that spray.
Malaki Branham had 19 points, Keldon Johnson had 22 points, and the Spurs’ Keita Bates-Diop and Gorgui Dieng each had 14 points. San Antonio’s Tre Jones scored 10 points, and Sandro Mamukelashvili recorded 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for his second career double-double.
Due to injuries, the Spurs played on Friday without Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Romeo Langford, Doug McDermott, or Zach Collins. All will be down time choice for cooperation on Sunday.
