MLS Preview: Toronto FC (3-10-10) at Chicago Fire (7-7-8)

The Chicago Fire have collected four points in its last two matches against Toronto FC (W1 D1) after taking three points from its previous 14 meetings with Toronto FC (W0 D3 L11). The Chicago Fire have kept clean sheets in each of its last two games, the first time they’ve shut Toronto FC out in consecutive meetings.

The Chicago Fire have won four of their last five regular-season matches (L1), including the last two, after winning just three of their first 17 league games this year. The Chicago Fire have won three straight league games just once this since the start of the 2018 season, a run in July 2022 that included a home win over Toronto FC.

Toronto FC has lost five straight matches, being outscored 11-1 in that time. Toronto FC are the first team to lose five straight matches while also scoring just a single goal in total since Inter Miami FC did so late in the 2021 season.

The Chicago Fire recorded a 3-0 win over the CF Montreal Impact on Wednesday, the first win by a multi-goal margin this season for the Chicago Fire. All three goals were scored in the opening 33 minutes, the first time the Chicago Fire has score three first-half goals in an MLS match since November 2020 against New York City FC.

Toronto FC have used 34 players in league play this season, four more than any other team in 2023. It is also the most players Toronto FC has used in a single season in MLS play since having 35 different players see the field in 2013 when the team finished with 29 points (W6 D11 L17).
