Real Salt Lake has won nine of its 14 home games against expansion teams (D3 L3), including two victories against Chivas USA and other newcomers in 2005. The only three expansion teams to win a Real Salt Lake are Atlanta United FC (2017), Los Angeles Football Club (2017), and Toronto FC (2007).
After opening the season with a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Real Salt Lake has lost in a row. Since the last three games of the 2020 season, Real Salt Lake hasn’t lost three straight in any competition.
As the first expansion team in MLS history, St. Louis City SC has won four games. In MLS history, only two teams have scored 15 points in their first five games: Sporting Kansas City in 2012 and Los Angeles Galaxy in 1996.
This season, Justen Glad has scored two of Real Salt Lake’s three goals, including the lone goal on March 11 against Austin FC. Glad has scored seven goals since the start of the 2021 season, ranking third in MLS behind R. Hollingshead (9 goals) and W. Zimmerman (8 goals).
This season, Joao Klauss has scored at least one goal in each of St. Louis City SC’s four games. In the past two decades, only four players have scored a goal in each of their first five games: Alan Pulido (Donning Kansas City, 2020), Brian Fernandez (Portland Woods 2019), Blerim Dzemaili (CF Montreal initial 6 of every 2017). Federico Higuain (Columbus Crew SC, 2012) and Nicolas Lodeiro (Seattle Sounders FC, first 7 in 2016).
