MLS Preview: Seattle Sounders FC (9-7-5) at Vancouver Whitecaps FC (6-6-7)

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC have won two straight matches against the Seattle Sounders FC for the first time since July-October 2014, having managed just three wins in 24 meetings in all competitions between those streaks. The Vancouver Whitecaps FC have never won three straight against the Seattle Sounders FC in the team’s MLS era.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC suffered a 3-0 loss at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, ending a streak of 12 consecutive games with a goal in all competitions. The 12 straight games without being held scoreless was the longest such streak (in all competitions) since the Vancouver Whitecaps FC joined MLS in 2011.

The Seattle Sounders FC attempted 515 passes (completing 443) in its 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo FC over the weekend. The Seattle Sounders FC have attempted at least 500 passes in 12 different league games this season, second most among MLS teams, behind only the Los Angeles Galaxy (13).

Including Saturday’s game against Sporting Kansas City, Deiber Caicedo has entered the match as a substitute in all 12 of his league appearances this season. Only the San Jose Earthquakes Ousseni Bouda (14) has played in more MLS games this season without making a single start.

In his 13 regular season games against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Nicolas Lodeiro has scored seven goals and provided seven assist. Since Lodeiro’s debut in July 2016, he is the only player with 7+ goals and 7+ assists against a single MLS opponent during regular season play.
