MLS Preview: Portland Timbers (8-11-9) at Austin FC (9-12-6)

The Portland Timbers are unbeaten in four consecutive matches against Austin FC (W3 D1) after losing each of the first two meetings. The Portland Timbers had won three straight in the series before a 2-2 draw in Portland on May 6.

Austin FC has lost three straight home matches in all competitions for the first time since August-September 2021. Austin FC has never lost four consecutive home games in club history.

The Portland Timbers have won only one of its 14 away matches this season (D6 L7), including going winless in eight straight away from home (D5 L3). The Portland Timbers have failed to score in five of those eights matches after being shut out in just four of their previous 38 road games in all competitions dating back to June 2021.

Alexander Ring’s 94th-minute equalizer against New York City FC on September 2 was the third result-changing goal Austin FC has scored in stoppage time this season. Only Atlanta United FC (4) has scored more result-changing goals after the 90th minute in 2023.

The Portland Timbers have scored multiple goals in each of their first four matches under interim manager Miles Joseph. The Portland Timbers had managed to score more than once in only two of its previous15 matches in all competitions.
