MLS Preview: Portland Timbers (5-8-7) at Minnesota United FC (5-7-6)

Minnesota United FC, who won, 1-0, at the Portland Timbers on May 20, is unbeaten in six all-time home matches against the Portland Timbers (W5 D1). There have been a combined 25 goals in the six meetings at Minnesota United FC (average 4.2 per match), including a 4-4 draw the last time the teams met at Allianz Field last July.

After collecting 11 points in its first five matches this season (W3 D2 L0), Minnesota United FC has just 10 points in its last 13 league games (W2 D4 L7). Since that run began in early April, only Inter Miami FC (9) has collected fewer points than the Minnesota United Loons FC.

The Portland Timbers have managed just one win in their last eight MLS matches (D4 L3) following a 1-1 draw with New York City FC on Saturday. Portland has scored only four goals over those eight games, its fewest over an eight-match span in that time in the club’s MLS history.

Minnesota United FC scored twice in Emanuel Reynoso’s first start this season, a 2-2 draw with Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Since Reynoso joined Minnesota United FC in September 2020, the Minnesota United Loons FC have averaged 16 points and 1.5 goals per match when he starts compared to 1.0 and 0.9 goals per match when he doesn’t.

Evander scored the Portland Timbers’ lone goal in its 1-1 draw with New York City Fc on Saturday, his team-leading eighth goal contribution of the season. Evander (3 goals) and Franck Boli (4) have scored the Portland Timbers last seven MLS goals as no other Portland player has found the net since May 6.
