MLS Preview: Philadelphia Union (9-5-3) at Orlando City SC (7-5-5)

Orlando City SC beat the Philadelphia Union, 2-1, at Subaru Park on March 25, handing the Philadelphia Union its only loss in 31 home matches in all competitions since the start of last season. Orlando City SC has never defeated the Philadelphia Union multiple times with a single season.

Orlando City SC’s six-match unbeaten run came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at the New England Revolution on Saturday. The Orlando City SC Lions are unbeaten in four straight home league matches (W2 D2), equaling their longest single-season home unbeaten run since a six-match span in July-September 2021 (W4 D2).

The Philadelphia Union saw their nine-match league unbeaten streak come to an end with a 2-1 defeat at the San Jose Earthquakes on June 10. The Philadelphia Union have lost consecutive regular season games only once since the start of last season, doing so in March of this year with the second defeat coming against Orlando City SC.

Duncan McGuire came off the bench to score his fifth MLS goal of the season, including his third as a substitute. McGuire is the fifth Orlando City SC player to score at least three goals off the bench in a single season, but only one, Julio Baptista in 2016 (5) has scored more.

Fullback Kai Wagner assist fellow defender Damion Lowe for the Philadelphia Union’s only goal in their loss at the San Jose Earthquakes on June 10. The assist was Wagner’s 33rd since joining MLS in 2019, 10 more than any other defender in the league in that time.
