MLS Preview: Philadelphia Union (13-7-4) at Toronto FC (3-13-10)

The Philadelphia Union have won five of its last eight matches against Toronto FC (D1 L2), including a 4-2 win in April. A Philadelphia Union player has scored a hat-trick in each of the last two meetings (Mikael Uhre in Aoril 2023, Daniel Gazdag in October 2022).

Toronto FC is the fourth team in MLS history to lose 10 straight matches (excluding breakaway shootout losses). Only one team in MLS history, FC Cincinnati (14 in 2021-22), has lost more than 10 straight matches across all competitions.

The Philadelphia Union has won 11 of its last 16 regular-season matches (D2 L3) dating back to late April, a run that began with a 4-2 win over Toronto FC. Only FC Cincinnati (37) has more points than the Philadelphia Union (35) since that match as the Philadelphia Union has more wins (11) than Toronto FC (10) has points in that span.

Toronto FC faced 31 shots in in its 2-0 loss to the Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, the third time in the last three seasons that Toronto FC has faced more than 30 shots without having a player sent off. All other MLS teams have totaled three such games combined over the last three seasons (Austin FC, FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew SC one each).

Nine of Daniel Gazdag’s 10 goals this regular season have been scored from the penalty spot, equaling the most penalty goals scored in a single season in league history. Gazdag has scored 16 penalty goals since the start of last season, with no team other than the Philadelphia Union scoring more than 12 in that time.
