Atlanta United will hope its 3–0 win in its last match against Orlando last September turns the tide of this rivalry back in their favor. The Five Stripes didn’t lose any of the first nine meetings (W7 D2) from 2017–19, before Orlando went unbeaten in the next six (W3 D3).
Atlanta United bounced back from the biggest home loss in club history, 3–0, against Austin on Saturday, with a 2–1 win over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday. The Five Stripes have still not put together consecutive wins since last September, following their last ten victories with a draw four times and a loss six times (including playoffs).
Orlando City was pegged back late by a Gyasi Zardes goal in the 65th minute on Wednesday, drawing, 1–1, in Colorado. Orlando has struggled late in games, being outscored, 14–5, in the final 30 minutes of matches, with the resulting –9 goal difference worst in MLS after 60’.
Ronaldo Cisneros scored his fifth and sixth goals for Atlanta United in the win over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday. He now has more goals in 14 MLS appearances with Atlanta (6) than he did in 43 games with Santos Laguna and Chivas Guadalajara in Liga MX (4).
Orlando City was fouled 17 times in its draw against Colorado, just above its league-leading average of 15.9 fouls won per match. César Araujo won two of those fouls, taking his total to a league-high 59 fouls won this season.
