MLS Preview: Orlando City SC (1-1-2) at Philadelphia Union (2-2-0)

The Philadelphia Union have prevailed in each of their three MLS encounters with Orlando City SC, the most recent of which they won 5-1 at home in September. In the series’ 16-match league history, this is either team’s first three-match winning streak.

The Philadelphia Association have won 13 straight home MLS matches (counting end of the season games), the second-longest streak in association history behind a 14-game streak by the San Jose Seismic tremors in 2001-2002. Since a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati on June 18, 2022, Philadelphia has not lost at home in more than 275 days.

Even though Orlando City SC lost to Charlotte FC 2-1 on Saturday, it was the club’s first defeat since 2023. The club has lost five consecutive games across all competitions (D4 L1). Orlando City SC has only three successes in 13 matches (D4 L6) since a five-coordinate series of wins last August-September that finished with a success in the US Cup Last.

In the Philadelphia Union’s 3-2 defeat at Montreal on Saturday, Mikael Uhre scored both goals for the third time since joining MLS last season. The Philadelphia Union have had 10 players score multiple goals since the start of the 2022 season, which is more than FC Cincinnati and FC Cincinnati combined.

Duncan McGuire assisted Martin Ojeda on Saturday’s goal against Charlotte FC after scoring in his MLS debut. McGuire is the third Orlando City SC player after Daryl Dike in 2020 and Nani in 2019 to have a goal in each of their first two MLS games.
