MLS Preview: New York Red Bulls (8-13-10) at FC Cincinnati (19-4-8)

The 12 all-time meetings between FC Cincinnati and the New York Red Bulls have been split, with each side winning four times and drawing four. None of FC Cincinnati’s four wins have came at home, however, the New York Red Bulls recording two wins and a draw in three all-time matches at FC Cincinnati.

FC Cincinnati clinched its first Supporter’s Shield thanks to a 3-2 win over Toronto FC on Saturday. FC Cincinnati has had either the most (2023) or fewest (2019, 2020, 2021) points in MLS in four of its last five seasons.

The New York Red Bulls have won only one of its last seven matches (D2 L4), but that win came in its last road match, a 5-3 win at D. C. United on September 23. Those five goals came after the New York Red Bulls had scored a total of nine goals in their previous 17 away matches in all competitions (W1 D6 L10).

Luciano Acosta created 10 chances for teammates in FC Cincinnati’s 3-2 win over Toronto FC on Saturday, the most in a single match in FC Cincinnati’s MLS history. It also equaled an MLS season high, matching Emanuel Reynoso’s 10 chances created against the Los Angeles Football Club in July.

The New York Red Bulls held the Chicago Fire to five shots in its 1-0 loss on Saturday, the 11th time this season the New York Red Bulls has lost a match despite holding their opponents to fewer than 10 shots. No other team since 2010 has had more than eight losses in a single season when holding opponents to fewer than 10 shots.
