The New York Red Bulls picked up a 1-0 win at CF Montreal Impact last August, ending an 11-match winless for them in Quebec in all competitions (D2 L9). New York Red Bulls’ only previous win at CF Montreal was 2-1 victory in its first ever visit there in May 2012.
CF Montreal Impact is the sixth team in the post-shootout era (since 2000) to lose at least six of its first seven matches of a season. Only two teams since 2000, D. C. United (7) in 2010, and Toronto FC (8) in 2012, have lost at least seven of their first eight matches of a season.
The New York Red Bulls have lost only one of their last seven matches (W1 D5) despite falling behind in five of those. new York has come from behind to avoid defeat a league-high four times this season, including coring equalizers in the 89th minute or later in each of its last two matches.
All three of CF Montreal Impact’s goals this season were scored in its lone win, a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Union on March 18. CF Montreal is the first team in MLS history to fail to find the back of the net in six of the first seven matches of a season.
The New York Red Bulls held 65.2 percent possession and completed 410 passes in their 1-1 draw with the Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday. Both are the most in an MLS match for the New York Red Bulls since a July 2020 match against FC Cincinnati during the group stage of MLS is Back (67.7% possession, 522 successful passes).
