This will be the first meeting between Austin and the Red Bulls in MLS. New York has won just one of its last seven league matches in Texas (D3 L3) dating back to July 2014.
Austin FC extended its unbeaten run to a club-record seven games (W5 D2) after a 1-1 comeback draw with FC Dallas on Saturday. Of Austin’s 17 points in that run, eight have been won from losing positions as the Verde’s 16 points from losing positions this season are most in MLS.
Only Austin FC (23) has collected more points on the road this season than the Red Bulls (20). New York already has six road wins this season, recording more just three times in club history (8 in 2000 and 2018, 7 in 2002).
Diego Fagúndez’s equaliser on Saturday was his 13th goal contribution of the season (5 goals, 8 assists). Fagúndez has only been involved in more goals in three of his 12 MLS seasons, most recently in 2018 with New England (19 – 9 goals, 10 assists).
The Red Bulls failed to score for the sixth time this season in their 1-0 loss to New York City FC on Sunday. Those games have been spread out, however, as New York has not gone consecutive games without scoring under Gerhard Struber, last doing so in early September 2020.
