MLS Preview: New York City FC (5-7-11) at Philadelphia Union (11-7-4)

Including playoffs, the Philadelphia Union have won four straight matches against New York City FC after winning only five of the first 17 meetings (D2 L10). The Philadelphia Union are the second team to win four straight MLS matches (regular season and playoffs) against New York City FC (New York Red Bulls in 2015-2016), with no team having won five straight.

The Philadelphia Union have won 16 of their last 19 home league matches (D2 L1) dating back to late June last year, including winning the last four in a row at Subaru Park. No team in the post-shootout era (since 2000) has won 17 times in a span of 20 regular-season home matches.

New York City FC has just one win in its last 14 MLS matches (D8 L5), though its unbeaten in its last eight, with seven of those ending in draws. The 11 points New York City FC has collected in that time are its fewest in a 14-game span since the club’s first 14 MLS matches in 2015.

Daniel Gazdag scored both of the Philadelphia Union’s goals against Nashville SC on Wednesday from the penalty spot. It was the 15th multi-goal games by a Philadelphia Union player since the start of the 2022 season, three more than any other MLS team in that span.

Santiago Rodriguez created six chances for teammates in New York City FC’s 1-1 draw at the Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, including setting up the team’s only goal of the game. The six chances created were the most by a New York City FC player this season and equaled the most in a match in Rodriguez’s MLS career.
