MLS Preview: New England Revolution (10-3-7) at New York Red Bulls (5-7-8)

The New York Red Bulls won both matches against the New England Revolution during the 2022 season after winning just two of the first 10 meetings between the teams in all competitions from 2018 – 2021 (D2 L6). The New York Red Bulls have won three or more in a row against the New England Revolution in all competitions once in the last 20 years: 4 straight in 2016-2017.

The New York Red Bulls suffered their seventh defeat of the season on Saturday, losing, 2-1, at the Columbus Crew SC. The New York Red Bulls had not lost consecutive matches this season and had just one two-match losing run in regular season play since the start of the 2022 season, losing to New York City FC and Columbus Crew SC in September-October last year.

The New England Revolutions have the joint-longest active unbeaten run in MLS at seven straight games following a 2-2 draw at FC Cincinnati on Saturday. The New England Revolution had suffered just three defeats all season, equaling its fewest through 20 games of a season in club history (2021).

The New York Red Bulls conceded six shots in their defeat on Saturday. All seven of the New York Red Bulls losses this season have come in matches in which it faced eight shots or fewer. No other team has more than three losses when facing eight or fewer shits this year, with the rest of the league combining for just 22 such defeats.

Gustavo Bou has five goals and two assists in six career matches against the New York Red Bulls, contributing to at least one goal in each of the last six games. The last New England Revolution player to contribute to a goal in seven straight games against a single opponent was Pat Noonan, also against New York, in 2004-2005.
