MLS Preview: Minnesota United FC (13-9-5) at Real Salt Lake (10-8-9)

The away side has won only one of the 11 non-neutral site meetings between Real Salt Lake and Minnesota United, a 2-1 RSL win at Minnesota in April 2021. The Loons have never won in four away matches against RSL, though the last three meetings there have all ended in draws.

Real Salt Lake has won just one of its last six home matches (D3 L2) after winning six of its first seven at Rio Tinto Stadium to open the season (D1). RSL, with a draw and two losses in its last three at home, hasn’t gone four straight home matches without a win since June-August 2017.

Minnesota United’s 2-1 win over the Dynamo on Saturday was its eighth victory in its last 11 games (D2 L1). The Loons have 26 points since the beginning of matchday 17 (June 29), more than any other team in MLS in that span.

Anderson Julio’s equalizer in Dallas on Saturday was Real Salt Lake’s 10th headed goal this season, tied for second-most in MLS with only Nashville (11) scoring more. Julio’s last three goals have all been headers after his first eight goals in the league were scored with his feet.

Emanuel Reynoso had an assist in Minnesota’s win on Saturday. Reynoso has contributed to a goal in each of his last five MLS appearances, the third time he’s had a streak at least that long (incl. playoffs). Reynoso is one of two players (D. Quintero) to contribute to a goal in six straight MLS matches for Minnesota.
