MLS Preview: Los Angeles Galaxy (2-6-3) at Columbus Crew SC (4-4-3)

This will be the first meeting between the Columbus Crew SC and the Los Angeles Galaxy in over four years, since a 3-1 home win for Columbus in May 2019. The Columbus Crew Are unbeaten in five straight home matches against the Los Angeles Galaxy (W3 D2) as Los Angeles Galaxy’s last win over Columbus Crew SC was a 1-0 victory in September 2011.

The Columbus Crew SC let a 2-0 halftime lead slip away on Saturday in a 2-2 draw with Orlando City SC. It marked the first time the Columbus Crew SC failed to win a home match in which it led by two goals at the half since July 2016, also losing a 2-0 halftime lead in a 2-2 draw against Orlando City SC.

The Los Angeles Galaxy are winless in six straight away matches dating back to last season’s playoffs (D2 L4), failing to score in any of their last four matches on the road. This is the Los Angeles Galaxy’s longest road scoring drought in MLS play (including playoffs) since a run of six straight away games without scoring in 2004-2005.

Cucho Hernandez recorded assists on both of the Columbus Crew SC’s goals on Saturday but failed to hit the target with any of his nine shots, equaling the most attempts by a player without a shot on target in an MLS match since 2010 (C. Dempsey in March 2016, M. Almiron in March 2018).

Dejan Joveljic scored 48 seconds after coming on as a substitute in the Los Angeles Galaxy’s win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, the fastest a Los Angeles Galaxy substitute has scored after entering in regular season play in club history. Joveljic has scored nine goals as a substitute since the start of last season, three more than any other MLS player.
