MLS Preview: Los Angeles Football Club (3-0-1) at Colorado Rapids (0-3-2)

The home team has won seven of the eight MLS matches between the Colorado Rapids and Los Angeles Football Club, including the last three in the Commerce City, which the Rapids have won. The only road win in the series’ history came in October 2018, when Los Angeles Football Club defeated Colorado 3-0.

Colorado is winless through five matches of a season for the fourth time in club history (2003, 2013, 2019,) despite coming back from behind to earn a point at Austin FC on Saturday. After five games, Colorado has scored just two goals, which is the fewest in club history.

For the third time in the last five years, the Los Angeles Football Club has scored 10 points in its first four games and is unbeaten. In three of the previous four seasons, in 2019, 2020, and 2022, the Los Angeles Football Club has started five games without losing a single game.

This season, Colorado has had Michael Barrios assist on both goals, including Saturday’s equalizer from Kevin Cabral. Barrios has been with the Rapids since 2021 and has contributed a team-high 16 assists. He has also scored 10 goals, making him one of only two Rapids players (D. Rubio has 21 goals, 13 assists) who have scored 10 or more goals and assists in that time.

On Saturday against FC Dallas, Carlos Vela made five attempts and created five chances for teammates, including providing the assist on Denis Bouanga’s game-winning goal. It was the eleventh time Vela has made no less than five efforts and set up something like five possibilities in a MLS match, two a bigger number of than some other player starting around 2010 (D. Valeri – 9).
