MLS Preview: Los Angeles Football Club (14-10-10) at Houston Dynamo FC (14-11-9)

The Los Angeles Football Club was unbeaten in its first nine matches against the Houston dynamo FC in all competitions (W4 D5), but the Houston Dynamo FC have won three of the last four meetings (L1), including both this season. The wins came five days apart in June by a combined 5-0, the second time a team has kept two clean sheets against the Los Angeles Football Club in a single MLS season (Los Angeles Galaxy -2 in 4 games in 2020).

The Houston Dynamo FC defeated the Los Angeles Football Club, 1-0, at BMO Stadium on June 14, its first win at the Los Angeles Football Club after losing four of its first five visits (D1). No team has ever won consecutive away matches against the Los Angeles Football Club in all competitions.

The Los Angeles Football Club has scored a total of 14 goals in four home postseason matches since the beginning of the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs, scoring at least three goals in each of the four games. The Los Angeles Football Club is the only team in MLS history to score at least three times in four straight home playoff games.

The Houston Dynamo FC have reached the Conference Finals for the eighth time in club history, two more than any other MLS team since they joined the league in 2006. Houston Dynamo FC are looking to reach its fifth MLS Cup Final, which would break a tie with the Seattle Sounders FC and the Los Angeles Galaxy for the most since 2006.

Denis Bouanga has scored 10 goals in his last six MLS matches (regular season and playoffs), scoring at least once in each match, the seventh player in MLS history to score at least 10 times in a span of six matches (including playoffs). Bouanga could become the third player to score in each of his first four matches of a single postseason after Jozy Altidore (first 5 in 2016) and Roy Lassiter (first 4 in 1996).

Hector Herrera set up Franco Escobar for the Houston Dynamo FC’s lone goal in its win over Sporting Kansas City in the Conference Semifinal, his 19th assist of the MLS season, the most in a single season in the Houston Dynamo FC history (including playoffs). Herrera has recorded six goal contributions (1 goal, 5 assists) in his last six matches dating back to the end of the regular season.
