MLS Preview: Los Angeles Football Club (11-8-7) at Portland Timbers (7-11-9)

The Los Angeles Football Club have won each of its last three meetings with the Portland Timbers in all competitions, including a 3-2 home win on March 4. The Portland Timbers had lost only one of the nine meetings prior to the Los Angeles Football Club’s three-match winning run in the series (W4 D4).

The Portland Timbers defeated Real Salt Lake, 2-1, in its last home match. The Portland Timbers have not won two straight home league matches all season, last running off consecutive home wins during a three-match run in August-September 2022.

Dairon Asprilla scored the Portland Timbers first goal in its two-goal comeback draw with the Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday. The goal was Asprilla’s 25th the Portland Timbers since the start of the 2021 regular season, 10 more than anon the team in that time.

Carlos Vela has scored seven goals in nine regular-season meetings with the Portland Timbers in his MLS career, only scoring more against the Los Angeles Galaxy (10). In fact, since Vela joined MLS in 2018, the only player to score more goals against the Portland Timbers is Raul Ruidiaz (12), who scored against them on Saturday.
