MLS Preview: Inter Miami FC (5-6-0) at Nashville SC (5-3-4)

Nashville SC has lost only one of its six all-time meetings with Inter Miami FC (W3 D2, including the play-in game in 2020). Nashville SC has conceded against Inter Miami FC at home, outscoring the Herons, 4-0, in the three meetings in Tennessee (W2 D1).

Nashville SC has won four straight home matches in all competitions for the first time in club history, outscoring opponents, 9-1, at GEODIS Park. In league play, Nashville SC has won each of the last seven times its scored multiple goals at home but it winless the last eight times its been held under two (D4 L4).

Inter Miami FC is the third team in MLS history to immediately follow a losing streak of sox or more matches with a three-match winning streak (New England Revolution in 2001, Colorado Rapids in 1997). Only the Colorado Rapids in 1997 (5 straight including playoffs) recorded a winning streak of four-plus games right after a losing streak of six-plus.

D. C. United scored with its only shot on target against Nashville SC in the 1-2 draw on Saturday. It’s usually taken many more shots on target to beat Joe Willis, who has saved 84.1 percent of the shots on target he’s faced this year, the best of any goalkeeper to face five or more shots on target in 2023.

Josef Martinez has scored in each of Inter Miami FC’s last two MLS matches after failing to find the net in his first seven league matches for the club. Martinez has recorded six separate streaks of three or more consecutive MLS games with a goal but hasn’t done so since July-August 2021.
