MLS Preview: Inter Miami FC (10-12-6) at Chicago Fire (8-13-8)

The Fire and Miami played to a scoreless draw in Fort Lauderdale on February 26 in the season opening match for both teams. Each side won at home against the other in 2021 in the first two meetings between the teams in MLS.

The Fire failed to score for the fourth straight game in Saturday’s scoreless draw with the Crew. this is the third time since last October that Chicago has gone four straight games without scoring, though they’ve never gone five straight games without finding the net in the club’s MLS history.

Inter Miami has won just one of its last 11 away matches (D3 L7), a 1-0 win at San Jose on August 3. Both of Miami’s road wins this season have come against Western foes (also Seattle) whiles the Herons have just two point from 10 away matches against teams from the East.

Gabriel Slonina kept his 16th MLS clean sheet in Saturday’s draw with the Crew. At 18 years, 111 days, Slonina’s 16 clean sheets are tied for the second most of any player before turning 22 in MLS history(Zac MacMath – 18).

Gonzalo Higuain is Inter Miami’s leading scorer with nine goals this season, but Miami has managed to win just one of the seven matches in which he’s scored (D2 L4). Miami’s 0.71 points per match when Higuain scores is the lowest of any player who has scored in at least five games this season.
